I have an Atlas Trainmaster silver series. I would like to try my hand at installing a sound decoder. I am having difficulty locating a sound decoder manufacturer that has a sound file for the Trainmaster. Most indicate a switcher or C-Liner sound file. I know there is only one Train Master locomotive that has survived intact — former Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) H-24-66 #8905 is now owned by the  Canadian Railroad Historical Association, which operates the  Canadian Railway Museum in  Saint-Constant, Quebec. I had the opportunity to visit with her this summer. The locomotive is non operational so I am assuming it would be difficult, if not impossible to obtain a sound recording of a Trainmaster. Could this be the reason there is no specific sound file for one? If anyone has any information on a suitable sound decoder for my Trainmaster, I would appreciate it. Thanks,

Trainmaster sound

Atlas had a "Gold" series H 24-66 that used QSI Quantum sound decoders.  Maybe try QSI.

Soundtraxx shows a Trainmaster sound decoder:

The Atlas gold series has

The Atlas gold series has sound and is quite good. I have several and they are my favorite locomotives for their running and pulling capabilities. If you watch you may find some with sound on the used market or new in a hobby shop. If so you could change the body shell with yours and sell the silver series or mu them and have one with sound in your set they mu nice in dcc with decoder pro to set them up. I have mued 2 sound units with a non sound unit  not a train master and used them to pull a long coal train, up and down grades and also switch with them. You can see a video on the either site below. I know that is not an accurate answer to your initial post but it might be one that offers you a solution that is of comparable cost and maybe less effort and gives you accurate results.

Train Master sound

Greg:

The Train Master did have a unique sound, no doubt about it, but boy, did they sound good-- 2400 really strong horses! Once you heard one you'll never forget it-- they made all other diesels sound kinda wimpy. The Soundtraxx Tsunami has a fair F-M sound decoder but it really isn't a Train Master; I think it's mainly for switch engines. There may be some sounds of one on YouTube & I have a 45 rpm recording of one done on the SF Peninsula commutes. I'm not sure how I could get that sound to you though. The Tsunami may be your only hope.

QSI Train Master Sound Files

QSI has sound files for the F-M / CLC H-24-66 Train Master. The are available for the older Revolution decoders and the newer Titan series.

http://www.qsisolutions.com/#!ho-q2-fx-files/c1o06

You can order QSI Titans from http://www.tonystrains.com/products/qsi_solutions_ho_s_scale.htm (an MRH advertiser) and other distributors with the sound files preloaded. You can preview the sounds by downloading the Quantum Firmware Upgrade application http://www.qsisolutions.com/#!applications/cfvg and the sound files.

Thanks Ken

I didn't see those sound files when I searched the QSI site. I am quite new to DCC and especially sound decoders. This is next on my install list!

Train Master (H-24-66) DCC Sound

Just purchased a Soundtraxx Tsunami TSU-1000 for an Atlas Silver Series Locomotive.  See the part numbers below [first part number is for the decoder and the second part number is for the speaker kit]. You can listen to the sound file here:  http://www.soundtraxx.com/dsd/tsunami/showwistle.php?s=fm

I have a Atlas Gold Series Train Master with a factory installed QSI DCC/Sound decoder.  I think it sounds good, but I'm liking the Tsunami sound file better.  Just sounds more like the prototype to me.  You be the judge.

The two sound files are

The two sound files are different and the engines are different in the number of cylinders. I actually like them both and don't think you can go wrong with either. The trainmasters by Atlas are my favorite locomotive for their excellent running and pulling qualities.

RailMaster

A superior sound can be obtained from RailMaster speakers. If your Atlas TM has the Isobaric speaker mounting in the rear area of the weight, two RND28 can produce incredible sound when wired out of phase so the push and pull together. The Atlas practice is to fire them down.

if you do not have this arrangement, typical HO hoods will be approximately 18mm wide. If there is a weight there, enough can be removed to provide speaker space. My speaker of choice is the DSM-8 which is just a fat hair under 18mm. I have also had very good results with 3 sugar cubes mounted side by side and wired series parallel. I use the 10mm x 15mm x 11mm deep versions.
