Arrg! September is almost here! Its time to start up a new thread so lets share some photos!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Just a smidge of weathering

RCX1149.jpg
Finished the weathering on this tank car.  I used a extremely thin wash of vandyke brown oil paint and turpentine for the overall grime and a grimy brown mix of enamels for the wheel splatter applied with an airbrush.

Looks nice, where's it heading?   I'd also like to see more of that CP 218218 boxcar, What brand is it, do you have a photo? .DaveB

It's Following CP 218218

Thanks @DaveB - I dunno -- its following CP 218218 perhaps on its way to a smelter or pulp mill.

_218218a.jpg

The Boxcar is faded with oils (I followed Jeremy St. Peter's article on Gary's site) I started with a white oil that turned the boxcar pink. I then mixed up a reddish rusty color to "undo" the pink.  The rest of it is some powders and dullcoat. the boxcar is an Athearn 60' Gunderson Boxcar.  (PN 96291).

hmm... looks like I have to clean that lens though...and fix that coupler.

its following CP 218218

Haha, Great answer Andrew.   Thanks for the boxcar photo. Looks very cool. Reminds me of the Canadian cars that brought lumber to a yard near my house. This one was CNA instead of CP but pretty similar car. I'll hafta look for one of those Athearn models. 1823.jpg

Made the decals and painted Mountain Lumber. Still a lot of detailing to do but a start has been made.

@ JURG.....

Another flick magnifique! I myself am starting to gear towards winter scenes again soon. I like the variation in weathering artists versions of these coil cars!

Looking good bro!

@steamfan

I like the visual proportion of the loco to the mill and the mill's "modern" look.  I don't see that much. More please.

Mountain Lumber 2

Thank you for the comments. The loco in the photo is an Athearn MP15AC. The mill itself I am kitbashing out of the Walthers steel mill. I will add pipe work and cyclones to the structure. These will be painted in different colors which is why they haven't been added already. The structure was painted using rattle cans. I find they are better than an airbrush for doing large areas. This structure is roughly 5 feet long. The tower in the shot is from Bachmann.

I've tried taking a panorama shot which is posted below. If you can't see the full image right click and click view image.

Just finished Weathering this Box.

Mike T, Love the big Mountain Lumber Structure.  As you can see from the following photos, I'm a big fan of the large industrial backdrop structures.

This box car is a freelance weathering job.  I did a fade with some white paint and then used enamel washes for the streaking and rust spots.

Thanks for viewing.

quick question...how did you do the windows in the factory.  They look spot on to me.

Box Car

Mike, thanks for the comment.  Your layout is the gold standard that I'm shooting for.  I follow all your videos and Ebooks very closely.

Bill, the windows were individually painted with some grey paint and then a dark enamel wash was applied over everything.  I'm a big fan of "AK Interactive" washes.  They are marketed to the military modelers and come from Europe.  They are specifically designed for weathering.

Twin Porter 0-4-0Ts

Here is a pair of Porters I have been working on recently:

They both have KA-1 Keep Alive capacitors added in their cabs, and custom headlight lenses and functioning link and pin couplers. In the background is #5, which is awaiting her turn on the workbench.

They are named after two common snake species found in the Sonoran Desert...like the one slithering beside #3. Next comes dullcote, some careful weathering to tone down the bright colors a bit, and final details including engineers. You can see more photos and read more about the twins on my blog.
