Hello all.

I have been working on weathering my track. It is all painted, and I am starting add rust to the rails. I have had pretty good result with the Woodland scenics rusty rail pens. But as it goes along the tip becomes very frayed. They do give you one extra tip. But I will need more.

Does anyone know where we can get more of these tips. The pens still have paint in them. All I need to do is buy more tips.

Thanks in advance.

Diminishing returns

I have thought about this as well because I use the Minwax stain pens a lot for touch up in my business.  They are identical to the woodland scenics pens.  Google shows several places that sell replacement tips for paint pens but, at $1 a tip and $4-5 shipping, it ends up being only a few bucks less than a whole new pen.  Plus I haven't found anyone that sells a replacement for these pens specifically, so the trial and error to find the right tip could be costly.  The cost just doesn't seem worth it.

If you can't bring yourself to waste a half full pen, if you have a small tube, (styrene, coffee stirrer, stiff straw, etc.) you can use it to drain any paint left in the pen after the tips are ruined.

OK here is what I have found.

OK here is what I have found. Krylon makes tips that fit just fine. In fact they last longer as well. I got a box (actually 3) that has 3 new tips in each box. Also as I went along, when the tips became frayed, I got my Xacto knife out and I re-cut the tip as a beveled edge. When the tip got too short to cut, I just got a new Krylon tip out and started again. The pens lasted a very long time this way. I was able to cover a lot of track rail this way.
