Okay you narrow gauge folks just trying to see who is using Kadee 714 couplers and who is using Kadee 178 couplers. While I was at Durango I was told that the D&RGW used standard gauge couplers on their equipment (I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as narrow gauge size couplers). I'm asking because I bought a Blackstone K27 and it has the 714 couplers but I'd like to use the 178 instead. just wanted to see if anyone else has any input or info that they'd be willing to share.

Thanks!!!

NG couplers

I have a bunch of HOn3 and all have the 714s. I as not aware of the other. I thought I had seen cars with two couplers to move both stnd gauge and NG cars on dual gauge track. See attached photos of #7140ton%202.JPG bt_stock.jpg

I would say most folks use

I would say most folks use the 714 couplers.  Personally, I've started using the Sergents couplers, seen here on a modified Blackstone boxcar:

Recently I started using their Sharon coupler.  Here it is on a Rail Line car:

And here are the two side-by-side on a pair of modified Blackstone C-19s (the original AAR on #16 and Sharons on #19):

714s

I use just the 714 but cut off the uncoupling pin/air hose. I like the look of the Sergents especially on a freestanding car but when the train is coupled up I really don't see the couplers anyway.
