Brass Hat

Hi, I Fred Miller and was co owner of the 2guyzandsumtrains forum.  I'm sorry it died, but last spring (2013) I went to the ER with bad stomach pains.  I has appendicitis and went to surgery where I was improperly ventilated and  I didn't wake up.  I was on a respirator and in a coma for a bit over 4 months.   At one point the doctor told my wife I would never wake up, but I did.  I was transferred to a long term hospital and they got me off the vent and I was sent to a nursing home.  I stayed there for 8 months healing a bd bed sore I got in the hospital and learning to somewhat walk again.  I am paralyzed from the knees down in both legs and use braces and a walker.  I am getting better but have a hard  time working on the layout due to not being able to stand without my walker and having leaning against the layout, but I'm getting better.  Anyway, the short story is the monthly bill didn't get paid because I was out and the host pulled the plug and later deleted all the data.  So it's gone for good.  Thanks to all that visited the site and sorry it went away.  Maybe I'll hang around here some.  Fred

Gone

Hi Fred

Great to hear why it went away.

I belonged up to the day it died. Really not much activity before it went away.

I saved a couple pages as an HTML so they open in my PC as if they still existed. Did not save as much as I would have liked.

I wanted the MDC Climax O ring mod but never took time to download it.

One fellow who was there from Louisiana is in the Trains.com forums.

Thanks for the info

Hi Fred,

I'm very sorry to hear about your health problems, and glad to hear that you are recovering.  Like Richg, I was a member and semi-active up to the day the site closed, and I always wondered what happened to it.  I used to check for updates daily, and am sad to see it gone.  Thanks for letting us know what happened, and by all means, please stick around here as long as you like!

I don't have the text for the On30 Climax build by Ken, but I have most of the images.  Here are the important ones that should allow a reproduction of it.  If you want all let me know, but this should be enough.

Archive.org?

Looks like several conversations & threads are still there using The Wayback Machine at archive.org.  Just type in 2guyzandsumtrains.com and select a date.  However, I did not find any pages with actual images.  Avatars, smilies, all seem to work, but content, not so much.

I especially enjoyed Ray M's steam rebuilds.

You are welcome to stay here with us.

We would enjoy having you here with us. I never got to see your works, but please feel free to start anew here.  We will take all the help we can get.

May I ask a question?  If your layout could be jacked up from the floor, could it modified to lower it to comfortable height for you to be seated at? Where you could roll around it in an office chair?  If so, I would contact the nearest club and ask for help.  Maybe they can provide the muscle while a good carpenter makes the mods.  Just a suggestion.
