Hoping I can get some feedback on Banta Modelworks buildings. Im looking at getting their

O scale Shortline Water Tank Kit and the Ridgeway sanding  kit.

Question is-  has anybody built Banta kits, how well do they go together, do they have a  steep learning curve?

I have built their sand house

I have built their sand house in HO scale. Easy to build with clear instructions. Reading the instructions a few times will help. As a newbie to building wood kits, learning the techniques (when and how) to paint/stain the pieces during the build was difficult. I recommend paint/stain the pieces before assembly. Its a good kit for learning.

Enjoy

If you have not built a wood

If you have not built a wood structure, Banta kits are a good place to start. Another great line of kits are those from Morgan Hills Models. The most difficult part for me is painting/staining the completed model. As Alan said, staining and painting the parts before assembly is best. This is especially true for pieces like window frames and other finely cut parts. Based on my experience with these kits, I am now thinking about trying a scratch built structure..

Interested

The water tank has my interest and I look forward to hearing comments as well. I've done one Morgan kit and starting another. Simple but simplified.

Banta kits-try Yahoo On3 lists

You might try joining one of the Yahoo lists for narrow gauger modelers. I believe there is an O scale or On3 list and there definitely is an RGS (Rio Grande Southern) discussion list. There are many modelers on these Yahoo groups that will have broad experience with Banta and other model manufacturers' kits. Just Google Yahoo lists and do a search. For example there is an On3 list at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/on3/info.

Just join the group and then ask your questions there.
