I've seen references on a few occasions to tea bags being used as canvas, and thought I'd show how it looks; I've not seen it done.

After the tea's steeped, CAREFULLY pry open the tea bag and discard the tea.  Let dry, and there it is.  With care, you can manage not to tear the tea bag, and have a fairly large sheet.  In this case, I cut out a small amount, wrapped it around the end of an Exacto knife, and dipped it in Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement.  When it was dry, I dipped it again.  I trimmed it while it was still on the knife, then slid it off, sliding it over the stack.  A bit of rigging line from an old ship model secures it.  Not counting time for things to dry, a 10 minute canvas cover.

Sun Shades

I thought of using tea bags like that for canvas sun shades on locomotives. Another thought was coffee filters

Pretty clever tip ...

... could have gotten you $25 I'm thinking?  Any rate, thanks for sharing, I'm going to have to figure out a good place to use it.

Tea and coffee

I LIKE tea--but nothing related to coffee will end up on my layout.  (Unless a local has jumped the track and ended up in a Starbuck's Drive thru...)

Tarpulins

Looking good. Nice modeling. I've used a single ply of Kleenex at times. Sharp scissors, Peel, Floquil paint on glass then lift and dry. I've also draped and painted / stained Or for roofing align on wet paint and add a top coat as necessary. Best of luck. Have fun. Bill

Teabags Tarps

I have taken tissue, cut it to width, rolled it up like a bedroll, glue the seam with some paint then add a few threads to act as tie downs straps, paint the whole thing then mount atop the radiator opening at the front of my SW's for a winter tarp cover.  Looks great and is quick and simple.

Tea bag tarps and more

Don't throw away the used tea. Dried it makes a great ground cover/ballast around a loco house and servicing area or industrial area, and is a really good representative of the real ground cover under dense tree plantings.
