Just wondering what MRH did insofar as reviewing DCC in general at the National Train Show?  I'm finding a bit here and there but no sign (unless I've missed it) of a DCC overview/synopsis, including new product introductions.

Yes ...

... Jeff provided a lot of pictures from the NTS; however, that seemed to be about the only "coverage" the NTS received here ... perhaps interest in the NTS has waned ... or perhaps it is just one of those things where "you had to be there" ...  :/

What sort of coverage were you looking for?

I'm not sure that there really was all that much new to cover related to DCC at the show.

The major announcements from the manufacturers who were there this year had pretty much already been covered in MRH. These would be SoundTraxx's new rolling stock sound decoder (announced in June), and MRC finally agreeing to make it possible for JMRI to support its system (announced in April).

Digitrax, for one, is no longer holding back product announcements and releases to coincide with the Convention and National Train Show (their new items were the Series 6 decoders they started releasing back in January), and it looks to me like other DCC manufacturers have pretty much done the same.

The point was I couldn't go so I have to rely on others...

If there was little to nothing to report, so be it; I don't know if MRH tries to structure its coverage of train shows by topic but thought if they did perhaps I'd missed something that pertained to DCC.  I keep bumping into rumors of new things in the works from TCS and perhaps an overhaul of SoundTraxx Tsunamis but nothing from the vendors themselves.

Its hard for me to get

Its hard for me to get excited about new DCC news as I have been into Digitrax for roughly 14 years.  I suspect the same is true for others, unless there is a new product that supports the system, looking at new DCC systems or releases for them if they are not Digitrax (or whatever brand you are using) is a non-issue.

DCC vendors have stopped doing announcements

Digitrax and the others used to talk a lot about new coming products in their user forums at the convention, but they've stopped doing that. They claim it's because the dealers were complaining that it stole their thunder and/or created confusion with people looking for products that weren't here yet, trumped up demand on speculative products that are just being considered, etc.

So not a lot new at the show with DCC. Probably the biggest coming-but-not-yet product is Diesel WOW sound from TCS.

DCC

I flat out asked one major DCC manufacturer if they had anything new, anything they were announcing at the show. They responded that they didn't - but I was welcome to come by anyway!

It's my biggest frustration - I want to get photos of all the new products that get announced at the show, but I haven't broken the code on finding out who I need to hit up as soon as I get there - aside from the biggies like Athearn who advertise that they're going to be doing reveals at 10am the first two days.

Next year is going to be even more interesting since I'll be working to coordinate/troubleshoot the AV stuff for the clinics, which is several miles from where the show will be.

"but I was welcome to come by anyway"

... or perhaps it was "but, I was welcome to come buy anyway" ...

It seems that many of the DCC manufacturers are in their comfort zone ... nothing really pushing them to develop anything further ... yet.  Ring Engineering could be a game changer ... nothing lasts forever.
