needing info as to weather or not i can hookup a bachmann power supply that is not on track freed but is on the full power by putting a resister inline off the the power supply not on the main track.

What are you asking?  If you are talking about the fixed voltage accessory terminals, then you can insert a resistor in series.  Just make sure the resistor is a high enough wattage to dissipate the heat.  Are you trying to reduce the output voltage?

Have you tried John Deere?

Mower supply.

Power, not mower

What are you trying to power? The accessory terminals are AC voltage. As was said, you need a proper resistor.

When I read the title I

When I read the title I thought he was building an industry for his layout. When I got here it was an electronic question and I thought well I'll let someone that knows answer that one. Just remember every electrician is a potential ground.

power supply

in my last note i meant to say power.however some folks were nice and gave me the answer i was trying to find.thanks to them for doing that for me . to the others, you were rude and no help to someone that is new to all of this. all i wanted to know is can i run a track with a trolley on it with the bachmann power supply from the track to the accessory post  with a resistor or a circuit board  that is  constant ac power

Power Supply Aux Outputs and Resistor

Although you can run a AC locomotive this way, I would not recommend trying to run an engine with this arrangement. First you will need to be running an AC powered locomotive (without additional circuitry DC engines will not work). Second you will need to calculate the resistance needed to drop the voltage to an appropriate operating voltage and then, third, obtain a resistor with adequate capacity to handle the power. You will be surprised at how large a resistor will be needed. Fourth, the total load or power is probable more than the aux outputs were designed to supply which will smoke the supply.

For example many aux outputs supply 11 to 12 VAC. With a typical Lionel loc will run at reasonable speeds with a supply voltage of about 5 ot 6 Volts and draw about 1 Amp. To drop 6 volts at 1 amp will require a 6 Ohm resistor (R = V / I = 6 / 1). The resistor will have to dissipate 6 Watts (W =  I2 x  R =  12 x  6), and so as to not create a burn hazard I would suggest doubling the power rating to at least 12 Watts. If you are running an older universal motor Lionel type unit, the current could be over 2 Amps. Yes you will only need a 3 Ohm resistor (6/2), but you will need a much larger resistor (22 x 3 = 12 Watts). Doubling that for safety will require a 24 Watt resistor.

Note: You should be able to edit your original post and change Mower to Power.

This is meant to be helpful and something to learn.  The next time you spot an error in your post use the Edit link.  It will let you fix your post and add to it.  I do it all the time, especially on my replies to other discussions.  Even though I use the preview to make sure all looks okay there is always that one error that slips through.  So, I use the Edit and fix it.

Try it.  Click the edit option up there on your first post and replace the M with a P.  Will be watching.

Oh!  One other word of advice.  They weren't trying to be rude at your expense.  They were trying to be humorous.  Don't worry about those guys.  They have nothing against you.

Lighten up, Francis...

Life is too short to be so serious.

Some punctuation and capitalization wouldn't hurt ya none either.

A couple of thoughts

Lokky,

This thread is an excellent example of "What you wrote and what I read is neither what you meant nor what I understood."

Never mind the typo, except that it probably led to fewer people looking at your original post, and to some folks having fun with it. If you're going to ask a question, check that you really have asked it in a way that OTHER FOLKS who don't know YOUR mind can understand it. Just compare your second post to the original. How can anybody learn from the original what you want, as described in the second? In fact, it's not clear that anyone can figure out everything pertinent about what you are trying to do by reading the second.

What's most amazing to me is that in your second post you say that you have found what you wanted. I'm either too old or from the wrong universe to get that one.

Hoping that you haven't been beaten down so much that you don't post again. When you do, please doublecheck according to the bold above.

Cheers,

DrJolS
