In the near future I'll be kitbashing the Walter's "Gas Plant" into Palmer Abestos. I believe it will possible to see through the window up to the underside of the flat roof and I'd like to have roof trusses to add realism. I could scratch build some, but I wondering if trusses are available as a detail item from a supplier. I've searched and haven't found any. I could tap my friend Michael to laser cut some for me, but I would have to sketch them up which would take me longer than building them myself. Any help will be appreciated.

All trussed up

Are the larger ones from Plastruct what you have in mind? Good luck. Bill

Learn to draw them up, it will take you all of the amount of time it would take you to scratch build one.  Michael can help you get started, draw a simple king truss first, then use a truss naming diagram from the internet as a guide for drawing out a more complicated truss.  Don't be intimidated by the computer screen!

You will get a custom truss built exactly for your building - it doesn't get better than that!!

I agree with Benny....?!

OMG, Did I just say that?  If you can gain a new skill in the same time it would take the " old fashioned" way, you should do it. By all means, ask Michael if he is willing to help first. But, I would bet you will find lots of uses for the ability to draw up various parts and pieces to fit exactly what you want/need. It will help make your layout unique.

Rick, I drew my very first Laser project up in paint.  It was a set of double hung windows cut to no particular scale, simply blasted to learn the process.  After measurement, they were roughly 2'x4' O scale windows and it took me literally fifteen minutes to do the drawing - I've been using MSPaint forever!

Once you get started, the process becomes a bit addictive - especially once you realized you can make any structure you want just as long as you have the patience to draw it up each part.

Another way to make trusses

If your trusses will only be visible through doors & windows, one trick is to apply wood, plastic, or even tape strips onto a piece of clear plastic or plexiglass. I've seen this done on architectural models and it can be quite convincing.

Roof Trusses

You could always buy a truss bridge in a smaller scale and use the trusses as roof trusses  .

Palmer Asbestos?

Rick,

What era are you modeling, and should an asbestos industry be any part of that? The material has been a no-no for decades.

Dante, the 1960's

Is the era I'm modeling and the building during that time definately said "Palmer Asbestos" on it. It this exists today as just "Palmer". Originally it was "Palmer Asbestos and Rubber Company" in the early 1900's. During my childhood years they made automotive brake and clutch components (out of asbestos).

Palmer Asbestos?

Thanks for the clarification, Rick. In the 60s, they were probably still making asbestos products, indeed.
