Has anyone used an on-line printing shop for their photo backdrop? I am looking for some recommendations from anyone who has had good experiences with one.   I have pieced together my panorama, made sure everything is right, and now I am looking for a good shop that doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

Best Regards,

John

wide format printer

You should be able to get it printed locally. Call around to your local print shop and see if they have a wide format printer.

They can give you a price based on the length and type of paper you want.

Trainman, Yes, I can get it

Trainman,

Yes, I can get it printed locally.  However, I still want to compare to what others have purchased to see if there are any cost and quality advantages.  A full photo backdrop is a very expensive item, so I want to make sure to get the best value I can.  One local quote I received was $200 for 7 feet by 2.5 feet for a matte, archival finish.  Another quote was $37 for a vinyl sign.

Best Regards,

John

Larc products

I recently had a section printed at a local printer. It was 20"X 48" and the cost was $74.00 on Matte Paper. Unfortunately, the end product was not what I was expecting.  It was partially my fault because the photo was not high resolution. I ended up cutting out the mountain tree line and discarding the sky from the backdrop.  I am going to give Larc products a try for the next section.

Costco

Costco will print 24" x 72" wide poster prints for about $26.  I am looking at getting one done to see the quality.  The actual in-store display looks very good.  I have to check and see if they can use matte paper.

I will be using panoramic mountain scenes that will overlay on the already painted cloud background.  So, I have two sets of 11" x 72" scenes almost ready to print.  I will combine these on to a 24" x 72" "canvas" in Photoshop, so that I can get them printed and only pay for one print.  I have to cut them out and install them behind foam foreground scenery anyway.  I can then blend them into the painted cloud background.

I hope all that makes some sense.

sign makers

A local sign maker may be a good choice. They regularly print banners and such so most have the equipment to big prints.

I've used this service

I've used this service multiple times and hs worked well for me.

They do nice printing of your photos in almost any size on matte paper very affordably.  You need to seal them yourself with krylon matte photo spray.  (You can get a can at Wal-Mart for $4).

Big Costco Posters?

"Mike Laley - Costco will print 24" x 72" wide poster prints for about $26."

What Costco are you shopping at?  Largest poster online is 20x30,  canvas prints 16x48.

My son had a 2 foot by 11

ACKDROPs.JPG UILDINGS.JPG My son had a 2 foot by 11 foot done for me for about $110. I cut out the sky and some of the mountains so it would look more like Western Ma and less like northern New England. See attached photos. I am adding another photo with some foreground scenery that gives a closer viewbackdrop.JPG

I live in Hawaii.  The local

I live in Hawaii.  The local Costco stores have them on display in the store.  I don't see them online on Costco's photo center either.  I checked in the store at the photo desk and they do make them.  That does not mean they have that service in all of the stores in the country.  You may want to visit a Costco near you and check in the store.

Thanks, Mike
