Bruce Petrarca

I've been doing some computer clean out and updating.

I needed to rebuild my collection of MRH magazines. So, I've been downloading them for the same price that they cost when they were first issued (free).

Looking at the business model of other magazines, I think Joe should charge at least double what they were.

Oh, wait a minute, that's still free.

Thanks, Joe.

this brings to mind...

an interesting feature that MRH could implement... How about a single download for the entire collection?

A zip file for all Landscape versions and a second file for all Portrait versions, updated every month of course.

Don't want to touch that one with a 10 foot pole, Bill. Really large downloads are a huge support headache because they run for hours and are more susceptible to hickups, dying 8 hours into a 10 hour download for people with a slower broadband connection, etc.

People who don't have sufficient bandwidth will try it not knowing they shouldn't, then when it fails later they will be frustrated ... the rule of thumb on really large downloads is to break them up. In this case, breaking the large all-issues download into individual issues makes the most sense. And well, what do you know, that's *exactly* what we have on the back issues page!

Even Google drive doesn't do downloads more than about 2 GB, and the full MRH issue collection will be circa 5 GB and growing. Maybe someday, but for now, files this large are really stretching the limits of reliability on the current internet.

And finally, the last thing we need right now is more stuff we have to constantly apply care and feeding to by remembering to update it every month.

Yeah, ok...

For my own personal storage, I only download the Standard Editions. But I can see your point.

I had to back mine up, sp....

I download them all, and burned the first 50 to my own DVD set.  Then burned them again.  I made a cover using a cover from a magazine issue in the set (Guess which one, it isn't hard).  Then I took it into the club library and dropped it off.  Increasing the reader base a few users at a time.
