The PWRR 5 - Allentown Part 2

We continue to roll through the Allentown area as we approach the station there. There has been a lot of interest in the use of foamcore for structures. There are other uses for it as I'll be pointing out. I don't know as yet how to go about doing an article on the subject. Anyway, let's continue our trip around the PWRR.

The Mifflinburg Mill is made of heavy cardstock and was inspired by an article in the July 1952 Model Railroader. It pays to keep the old magazines around because in the old days there was more emphasis on DYI, hence the fact that structure articles were more plentiful. Scratchbuilding will live forever thanks to these old pubs.

In the early 90's MR ran an article on constructing an Asphalt Distribution Depot. I had the article in my files until I was able to round up the components. The shack is an Armco Steel Building available from the National Association of S Gaugers. The chain link fence is available from Scenery Unlimited. The stone wall around the tanks was made of foamcore with cinder block paper glued on. I produce my own brick and stone from the internet, MSword and a color printer. Any foamcore article would include how to use brick paper and acrylic paints to produce bricks and stonework.

An old RMC article formed the basis for this planning mill. It was made of Northeastern wood siding.

The Ford/New Holland farm supply company is a colletion of ERTL plastic buildings and diecast implements. S scalers make good use of the ERTL 1/64 product line.

As we near the station, here's a full view of the Allentown area.

We arrive at our destination. Next time we'll explore the PA countryside as we travel from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, PA
