Work in progress!

More progress this week:
 
Here is a 'powered tool car' to push assorted critters, this is an in-progress construction shot.
 
It's a shortened Boulder Valley Models outside-braced box car on top of a Bachmann 0-4-0 Gas Mechanical mechanism with a TCS decoder with onboard Keep Alive. Once I add draft gear, it will push unpowered critters, including this Bachmann rail truck:
 
The rail truck has a custom cab and its drivetrain (and broken gears) removed. It rolls really nice!
 
More to come, there are a ton of details to finish on these two models.

Looks good!

I like it. Interesting idea on the tool car. Gonna make truck side frames to blend it in a bit?

Sideframes? You bet!

Thanks, Art...it turns out the stock Bachmann truck sideframes perfectly match the wheelbase of the critter mechanism. I have cut a pair free, sanded the back, reamed out the bearing cones to fit around the axle ends, and painted them boxcar red. they will get a touch of sooty weathering and will be glued against the mechanism sides, hopefully conveying the look of some funky shop-built frame. Anything to disguise those heavy lookng frame sides!
