There has been a lot of discussion on various threads about the recently-discovered Soundtraxx Tsunami "coast" feature/workaround. I outlined it in detail in the Allagash Ebooks - how to program it in, how to use it and the advantages of using it. In summary, diesel operations have been taken to a new level if you use Tsunami decoders. Frankly, it would be great if this became a feature of Tsunami and LokSound decoders, WITHOUT having to go through this workaround.

I just want to be clear that I can't take credit for discovering this incredible feature, nor can the folks at Soundtraxx!

Friend and hardcore prototype modeler (CSX early '90s) Brian Bennett came up with the idea, I took it and ran with it. Brian really did some outside-the-box thinking and somehow figured this out. So cool.

Thanks Brian!

What is it?

So, for those of us who have not read the ebook, what is it?  Does it exist on steam Tsunamis as well?

Earlier threads

Ken, this is more of a diesel only thing, since it relies on re-purposing the dynamic brake function.  It's discussed in a recent thread at  https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/sw9-with-soundtraxx-tsunami-emd-567-sound-video-results-12197027 , and I outlined the CV settings in my blog entry at  https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/iaiss-west-end-fun-tsunami-revelations-now-with-video-12196707 .

To be clear, my writing on the subject wasn't meant to take away from Mike's Ebooks or Brian's idea.  I saw a vague comment elsewhere about reusing the DB function for coasting and posted only what I figured out on my own.  Fortunately, Mike was kind enough to later provide details about Brian being the source of the idea, and I'm glad he did.  I owe him a big debt of gratitude for the idea and the fun it's brought to the hobby for me.

Steam uses

Ken and other steam guys,

I was talking about this with Craig Bisgeier at the Northeast Proto meet in Collinsvilel, CT a few weeks ago. After describing what it does and how it works for diesels, Craig seems to think it can be used in steam applications, specifically related to exhaust level? Not sure if Craig is on this forum. Craig, if you are out there, maybe you can weigh-in!

If he's not, I can contact him off line and see if he can get involved in the discussion. It would be great if you could use it for steam as well.
