Hey Guys,

If anyone is interested in servo and DCC controllers Tam Valley has a deal on right now where you can get a singlet servo accessory decoder for only $4.50.  It's a sample deal so only 1 per customer at that price but a great way to try the decoder out.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone wants to check one out.

Thanks!

This is actually something I've been looking at - it's a very inexpensive solution to a problem I was avoiding.

Just spreading the good word...

Some very interesting and useful technology coming out of Tam Valley.  I ordered one of the singlets and I don't even have DCC yet.  I just couldn't pass up that deal, LOL!

Jeff, I would be interested in hearing about your application and how the servo and singlet work out as a solution to your problem.  I assume/hope you will tell all when you have it worked out.

Nothing too weird

I've got a section of my layout where I'm testing a 4-servo system, but I've got 5 switches to control, one of which is quite a ways away from the rest. Guess where the Singlet is going?

Weird or not...

Let us know what you are doing.  Take a few pictures and shoot a video.  Blog it or use it in the magazine.

Enquiring MRH minds want to know!

Oh, you'll see what I'm doing...

...at least part of it in the next issue.

Arrival

Mine arrived today - One page of instructions, with diagrams and photos, one controller, and a servo with attachments. Oh, and one three wire cable to hook them together - based on others I've seen, the three wire setup with a certain sort of plug/wire must be a standard in the servo industry. Perhaps I'll see if our local RC shop is open tomorrow and if they've got some longer wires.

Of note, the DCC controller is meant to be attached to the fascia, with holes drilled thorugh for LEDs and buttons. Hope your front benchwork isn't too deep (mine is, I suspect).

Ah - important note: the drilling template appears to be slightly narrow based on my holding it up to the actual controller.

Ah again - correction - the template is not off, my understanding of how it's mounted was. Based on the template the LEDs are mounted vertically not horizontally like I first thought. It's correct when positioned that way.

International Arrival

My singlet arrived today, servo & accessories, singlet decoder, instructions, and a short extension cable.  A very nicely laid out circuit, I must say.

Jeff, rather than looking for a longer extension cable you could cut the included cable and splice additional wire in to make it the length you need.

For facsia mounting the facsia would need to be 1/4" thick or less to be very practical.  If your facsia is too thick perhaps a piece of 1/8" plexiglass or acrylic inset as a mounting panel would be in order.

There is a place to attach an auxillary switch for non DCC control.  That's handy for guys like me who tend to put the cart before the horse sometimes... )

Overall, very pleased with my order from Tam Valley.
