A magnetic trail could be placed along the track and used to position a small microbot device. The device would need a sensor for positioning beside the car to be uncoupled. The device would also need to have a arm that could be actuated to lift the uncouple lever to release the coupler. The device would be configured to look like a scale brakeman. All we will need then is a smart phone application to control the little guy.

One day maybe we will have an army of workers that would build our scale building to our plans, or at least assembly our 3D printed models.
