Just got an email from Model Railroader advertising their Olympia Logging Series of videos and a chance to "preview" them.  All this preview basically does is show off a hot car and watch the front of a Home Depot store,  I don't know about anyone else but personally I'm very familiar with how Home Depot looks...much to my wife's dismay...  You'd think they could give away at least a few seconds of video with enough value to be tempting.

Got same ad. Didn't make me want to buy.

Somebody trying to tell the world they just got a new 2014 Vette. Very poor teaser for a railroad video. Now had they actually strapped the benchwork lumber to the roof of the Vette, that would have been a good video!

Not to "bash" Kalmbach..

..but it's depressing the state that company is in.  I'm not talking about financial stability.  I'm speaking about the interaction the MR Staff USED to have with fellow hobbyists.  I am good friends with some of the retired staff, and I would say for most of the now retired MR Staff, I had a very cordial relationship with all of them.  I would see them every year at Conventions (Both National and Regional) and every time I emailed them, they would find answers for me, reply, and we would carry on a conversation once an awhile via email on the progress of each other's layouts and so on.  Now there is no one that is on MR's Full Time Staff with the semi-retirement of Jim Hediger that is from the "Good Ole' Days".

I am glad MRH has come into existence because I sincerely believe (I'm not trying to puff up Joe's Ego here, because well, I don't think one ever can with how humble he is) Joe Fugate and his staff have more or less replaced what was once an excellent staff that not only knew how to "push the envelope" in terms of how and what can be done, but genuinely interacted with the people they served.

MR can add all the Bell's and Whistles they can to their "products", when I invested in subscriptions into MR, it was more than a Magazine I was getting in return, and adding "Video presentations" doesn't replace the one on one interaction that one used to get.

Was it PT Barnum?

Was it PT Barnum who said, "I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right." Updating this to the modern internet, we could say it doesn't matter what people are posting about you on the web and social sites, it matters more that they are talking about you. One thing I never want to do is underestimate or poo-poo Kalmbach. They're smart people and at least they're willing to try something out of the box. Every marketing person knows you lay a goose egg once in a while. If it flops, they're not likely to repeat it.
