Mendota Northern

Just picked up a copy of Model Railroad Planning 2014. Was amazed on the article of Jason Klocke's CGW layout. Anyone have more info on the layout? Would love to see a track plan and such.

I Read It

I've purchased a copy every year since it first came out. However, I don't have any other information on his layout and thus couldn't reply to your first post but was able to reply to your second one.

Seriously though, it looks like a nice layout and an interesting solution to incorporate a wye without modeling the entire thing.

Jason Klocke

Clark Propst often shares photos of Jason's layout on the Yahoo Proto-Layouts list.  Amazing layout.

Links

Sorry Bill, I'd provide links if I could, but you have to be a member of the Proto-Layouts list to see pics posted there.  I highly recommend the list though.  Lots of very experienced, very talented modelers there who go out of their way to help the less experienced (like me!).

If interested, you can subscribe by sending an email to proto-layouts-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .  However, to view list archives (including previous pics posted of Jason's layout), go to  https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Proto-Layouts/info , sign in with your Yahoo ID, and then join there.

Joe, how long has Jason's layout been up a running? I'm surprised as high quality as the layout seems it hasn't been seen more. Hats off to your article in MRP by the way.

Not sure

The first pics I saw of Jason's layout from the P-L list were from December 2008.  It's been a favorite of mine ever since.  I'm not sure how long he'd been at it before that time.

Thanks for the kind words on my article.  I've benefited a lot from the trails that Jason and others have blazed before me.

Quite Beautiful Layout

I have to agree with the other comments: most excellent layout. Once in a while you see photos of a layout that make you look twice to make sure it's a model. The scenery, especially the field grass, blends perfectly with the trackwork, railroad equipment and backdrop. Most excellent! I'd love to see more of this layout and it's track plan.  Jason makes even a secondary line look like all the railroading a person needs when it's done this well.                              Regards,   Barry Peltier.

The Great Weedy

Ditto here as well on noting Jason's great scenery - looks very real, almost too real to be a model.

Makes me wonder if I should ditch the mid-1990's UP in lieu of the MILW in the '60s or early '70s - weedy track and all.

Jason Klocke

I just operated his layout on Monday.  He lives only 2 blocks away from me.

It is even better in person.  The level of realism is outstanding.

I do not know if he is a member or not.  I will ask him the next time I see him

He was as of a few months ago.  I saw his user ID in the "Who's new" list, but never saw him post anything, and now his user ID doesn't turn up in an MRH search.
