Hello,Long time lurker, since issue 1.Ive decided to come out of my shell. My name is Mike and Im from central PA.Im close to starting on my layout.I had the Amish cnstuct a 12 x 28 building to match my house, that Im finishing.Electrical ckts are ran and Im jus finishing insulating so, I can start sheetrock this wknd.

Ive been a fan of  Pelle Soeborg since his first layout, years ago. What I am doing is taking his design, slightly enlarging it,and moving it East to be a freelanced,Buffalo Line feeling Conrail layout. However Daneville has always bothered me with the way the ind.spurs come off the yard.I can not put my finger on it though and say ah ha thats it.Ive toyed for a long time about inserting MRRs Bay View Jct. slightly modified into this area and feel pretty good about it.Soooooo, I know ultimately its my layout, but Id like to hear your thoughts on this idea, sometimes a fresh idea helps the juices flow again.     Thanks

First of all....

Which version of Daneville are we talking about?  The old layout or the new and so called improved one?

Chris,I believe we know each

Chris,I believe we know each other from younger days.I live in Lamar now so I still get to Lock Haven all the time.Grew up in Watsontown area and used to railfan from there to Harrisburg. Now I spend most my time at the Brickyard in Altoona and other areas around there Especially Tyrone. You will have to excuse my typing an such till I get used to this forum. Was going to try and respond to you an Michael in one shot. I find it easy to envision Pelles plan in the east.I just think a jct. with some industry an interchange better fits the bill  but I want to hear suggestions to let me open my mind so I dont get Tunnel Vision. The Lime plant side works easily in Pa ,so does a Paper mill but one thing at a time, although I think lime will stay since I see Graymont Lime in Bellefonte all the time.I think you an I met through Rich at Bowser/English Model RR

If you have an eastern prototype you want to model I'd suggest forgetting the copying of someone's layout plan and just designing what would fit your needs better.  How much of that 12 by 28 room do you want to cover, what prototype, era, operational goals, etc? ......DaveB

Ok,Let me back up a little.Im not trying to copy a plan as one would think.I was sitting ,drawing one night several years ago knowing the general size of the structure I could afford and fit into a particular area of my property.I was using the Armstrong square method figuring the max. radius I could use and general thoughts on the mainline that I would like to have.I was working on getting my way to hidden staging, when it dawned on me that this looked familiar.Well,a little research in MRRs layout plans and there it was ,only slightly smaller was his plan.Below I will list some of my Givens&Druthers then maybe people will understand better why I dont think that yard section works and I should modify it like I said above as, C.P.Machias andC.P. Salmanaca closely resemble that.

Period:1994-1996

Area:N.Central PA     Southern NY

Railroad: Conrail

Building Size 12 x 28

Actual Layout area 11ft 3 x 24 ft 6

Operation to Railfanningl depends on the day

once thru mainline

scenic realism especially roadbed an area close

longer trains

able to operate Conrail trains  ENBU,BUEN,USF to strawberry ridge,ML420 and WH_ _

interchange with regional spinoff

primarily for self

uncomplicated,less is more

large industry

min radius30  #6 & #8 turnouts handlayed

able to finish an keep interest in this lifetime

Im just seeking opinions because I feel that 3ft wide section of layout could be used better to convey the feel I want.I guess Im justa little uneasy with my thinking on that area everything else is planned well I feel.
