I just got a few new Rail Master speakers that I will try and fit into my various locomotives with my RailPro sound modules. I don't want to permanently install the speaker just listen to it and see how it sounds before I do so. Has anyone ever used this product by Elmers? http://www.elmers.com/product/detail/E625?filterPath=putty

I looks like it may work. Would it work for a permanent seal or what should I use? getting a bead of some silicone down in there looks nearly impossible on some of the loco shells. What works and what should I aviod?

Products which work best and are easy to use and aren't a pain in the butt to work with.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I use Woodland Scenics' Foam

I use Woodland Scenics' Foam Tack glue for installing speakers in my HO locos.  I can squirt a little out on a piece of paper, then use a pick or small screw driver blade to work the glue in where it needs to go.  I use it to hold LED headlights, as well.

The adhesive should allow removal

I use a silicone blend sealant (the tub and tile sort) as it cures quickly and allows easy removal if needed. I use 2 dabs, about the size of a pea, to secure RailMasters DSM-8s in both Kato and Athearn hoods. Removal is accomplished with the tip of a #11 Xacto knife. The stuff is also good for securing SMD LEDs in diesels. I slip the fiber optic lense into one end of a suitably sized piece of shrink tube and the SMD with leads into the other. Once I have the fiber optic properly located in the body, I make sure the LED is positioned against it and secure the shrink tube to the body with 2 small dabs of the sealant (use a very small flat blade screw driver to apply the sealant). When the sealant is clear, it is dry. I then apply heat to close the shrink tube around the leads. If I need to replace the LED, everything comes apart easily.

Elmers Tack

I use this stuff all the time for installing speakers and holding wires in place, sealing speaker enclosures or sealing holes in tenders. Very useful stuff, you can roll it out into a long string and wrap it around the speaker making a gasket.

I don't know how long it is good for, I have some loco's that I did probably 4 or 5 years ago now, and these are still fine, the tack is still soft and tacky. I have used the stuff from Elmers and similar stuff from UHU, basically the same stuff. I consider this to be essential to have around when installing sound.
