Just as I have finished painting and detailing a GP35 as CP 5023, Atlas announces CP 5023 and 5024 in their new catalog. I think the train gods must really, really be killing themselves laughing at me.

Still, it was neat to try my hand at painting, detailing and decaling but I could have been doing the OBRY engine instead!

ANY TIME YOU DO A PROJECT

You gain experience from it that makes you a better modeler. Besides, no matter what Atlas may produce, this will always be your favorite because YOU did it. Nice job. Next project.

Funny!

I just commented on that in this thread:

I've been working on a CNR slug for ever, look for someone to release that when I'm done!!! (great job on the CP unit BTW!)

Thanks

Thanks for everyone who took the time to comment. I did find doing the detailing on this engine to be a lot of fun. Even if I hated putting the lift rings in. (I lost 3 or 4 along the way)

I plan to try again with another scheme but am waiting on some decal paper for my laser printer to arrive.

My posting was really just about the irony that "No sooner do I finish, then they issue a model".

No good deed goes unpunished

I wanted to model a certain passenger car.

I went out and took slides of the car, projected them on the wall and used them to develop scale plans for the car.  One week later the new MR arrives and it has scale plans for the car.

I figure out how to kitbash the car, buy the parts, cut them up, put the car together and one month after finishing the painting and lettering, not one, but two manufacturers come out with kits for that car.

Sigh.

I've seen this happen all too often.  Why are you surprised?  Would you mind doing a Southern Pacific SD40 next and step on it!?  I need one from Athearn Genesis but they are waiting on someone to do one first!  =P

Hey Prof,

Sorry it's been a while since I started this one, but I believe it's just flat styrene that was filed to shape. I did an N scale one and I remember that one is stacked strip styrene filed to shape.

That PB1 is one funky looking unit, be sure to post some pics!

I know about 5 modelers just like you, who build and kitbash a Rare model then it appears on the Manufacturers website. I would like to commission all of you start making a C-415 Alco diesel.... Thomas G

it only works if the scratchbuilt loco is finished to a high standard with a lot of hours and pain  invested, the manufacturers have people looking for photos of such models so they know what to build next :> ) .....DaveB
