In addition to modeling, I volunteer as a docent at the Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science (http://www.emuseum.org), in particular at the Transportation Center. Our collection includes the Tennessee Club, an ex-L&N tavern observation lounge car. This car was originally built in 1926 by Pullman as a plan 2521 10-section sleeper observation car with open platform. It was one of a series called Mt. Langford, Mt. Broderick, etc. In 1934, while still owned by Pullman, it was modified to enclose the rear platform, allowing the car to be used in mid-train service. They were called 10-section sleeper solarium cars after these mods. In 1954, the car was sold to the L&N along with several more from the same group. At that time they were modified by removing the sleeper sections and installing booth seating and service bar, making the car into the configuration we now have. When we give tours of this car, we describe the original configuration, but it is difficult to visualize for anyone who has never seen a Pullman section, especially the school children who make up many of our tours. I would really like to find photos of a mid to late 1920s Pullman section, both as it looked in seating mode by day, and as made up for sleeping. All I have been able to find so far is either of older equipment, or photos far too low-res to make an 8x10 print. If anyone has such pictures or can tell me where to find them, I would really appreciate it. History note: This car was used in two presidential campaigns. Dwight Eisenhower used it in 1952 when he campaigned in the south. Then, it was used by Lady Bird Johnson when she was stumping for Lyndon in 1964. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! What if

Norman

The movie "Some Like It Hot" had scenes using a Pullman car set up for sleeping - and hijinks.  Maybe you could extract some quality still photos from it.

You probably already checked here, but just in case...

The Pullman State Historic Site:  http://www.pullman-museum.org/theCompany/

Also, the University of Louisville has an extensive collection on L&N material including photos that probably have interior shots of the cars.

And you may try contacting the Louisville & Nashville Historical Society (of course I'm a member!) http://www.lnrr.org/

California Railroad Museum

The California Railroad Museum in Sacramento has a Pullman sleeper set up as you describe. Maybe you can contact them to get some photos.

Although getting a 1:1 picture would be tricky in that narrow aisle.
