I had to chuckle reading Dave Dexter's tip for using poster putty to hold little screws. We've been using that trick for years where I work, but with wax.

I'm a surgical technologist working in a hospital's O.R. The screws we use for cranial and jaw fixation are very small: they have a 2 to 3.0mm head and length from 1mm and up. We often use sterile bone wax ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_wax) to hold troublesome screws on the screwdrivers.

I have done this with...

with candle wax and a few other misc. products at hand, at the time.

Also, I have saved some of the magnets from old hard drives to magnetize screw drivers for putting in steel screws.

Your method would certainly work well for non magnetic screws.

No other hobby presents itself so well as MRR for all the old trade secrets, which now aren't secrets anymore.
