I currently have a proto 2000 switcher sw9/1200 and I am in need of some parts. However I am coming up short as I cant find anywhere that stocks them here in Australia.

I have tried walthers themselves but they seem to not stock parts either. If I am able to replace the worm and drive shafts with other branded parts I will happily do so.

Nick.

Look for Athearn parts

Nick,

While I am not intimately familiar with either of those models, I know that the P2K models tend to be basically clones of Athearn mechanisms, mechanically.  Many of the parts will swap between the two, and I strongly suspect that the worms and drive shafts would be among those.

Nick,

I have a proto s-3 switcher and it has the same drive as the Atlas s-3 switcher, so check them for parts also.  They are pretty good to deal with and all the part diagrams are on line.

Parts source ex Sydney

Dear Nick,

I'm in Sydney, and have the remains of some P2K SW7/9/600/1200 trucks which were made surplus in a kitbash project. Should still have the entire worm and wormgear sets, if I can get into the "warehouse". Contact me offlist if you're interested...

Happy Modelling,

PS what issue are you trying to solve? I've heard of axle gear splitting, but can;t recall hearing of any issues with the metal worms themselves???
