I recently installed an MRC 1803 Sound Decoder in a Proto 2000 Alco PA loco. In the PB unit I installed an NCE D13SRJ decoder. The two units now have trouble running together, I have tried to speed match the units manually but with little success. After being inspired by the great videos on this site I was prompted to explore the JMRI software. I have since installed a USB driver on the layout to assist with decoder operations and fine tuning. After installing DecoderPro I am able to read CVs on the NCE decoders I have but am not able to identify the MRC sound decoder or its functions. As the MRC sound decoder is not available in the list of available decoders in DecoderPro am I still able to create a roster for the unit and access the required CVs? Cheers Ben

Ben. I assume the 1803 to be very similar to the MRC 1806 decoder. You can use the profile from the 1806 that is in JMRI..

Decoder defintion

Marc's suggestion of using the 1806 definition is a good one. Just make sure you have the latest update (available at the link below) because that defintion had 2 updates in the last couple months.

Another one to use would be the new 1829 definition which has improvements over the 1806. Since the 1829 wasn't in the last 'Production' release you can get it by right clicking on this link then "saving as"

http://jmri.sourceforge.net/xml/decoders/MRC_dieselsound1829.xml

This page tells you what to do with those files.
