HI all. I took the plunge on a RDA Delaney Iron kit. After building it I realized it screamed New England, That means Fall foliage. Being basically cheap I decided to make my own ground foam. an this is what I came up with on a little diorama. Comments and criticisms welcomek%5B1%5D.jpg

Fine foam

Scene looks good.  Perhaps mix in some bare trees with dead leaves on the ground?

Tell me

I've never had much luck making my own ground foam. Always turned out way too coarse. Yours looks great - how did you go about making it?

Stunning

You should be happy with it and the way it came out

Thanks for the comments.

IMAG0832.jpg Thanks for the comments. After I use the blender to make coarse turf I take some of it and mix with dilute white glue I let it dry ( spread on foil 170 degree oven) and run it through a coffee grinder. Sounds like a lot of work but it really isnt. This is less than an hour total work the rest is just waiting to dry. Any color you want. Total cost probably 2 bucks originally all the containers had the same amount in them

Great looking trees.

What foam did you use? The white foam, green floral foam or pink/blue. Also why the oven treatment? to speed drying time? Trees look great are they real tree armatures painted brown/black? Also, what dye or coloring did you use? Carter.

Thanks Carter. The foam is

Thanks Carter. The foam is from a goodwill seat cushion, I'm very impatient so I use the over to speed up drying, I use lots of different armatures these are some woodland scenics I picked up at a flea market. the colors are just craft store acrylics. there are numerous web sites and videos that show this process Dick

Coffee Grinder

My coarse foam was also cut up in a blender while being mixed with cheap craft paint. Does the coffee grinder really make a difference in making the foam finer?

This is the difference

This is the difference between blender and grinder. 0grinder.jpg

Thanks Dick

That photo is very revealing, Looks like I'm off to the Goodwill store or a yard sale for a coffee grinder!
