I like it too!

Would be nice if it was better integrated with the page. I expect that will come.

This is a wonderful improvement, Joe!

Full integration is coming

Full integration with the site is coming ... but for now this retires the old, very weak Drupal search capability.

Works on our iPad

Tried it on an MRH iPad, and this custom MRH Google search works fine, so we'd need to figure out why you're "special" ...

Nice to see something new and

Nice to see something new and improved. As you said the old one was at a minimum frustrating.

For the WinXP users...

Dear Joe,

Just a note, WinXP Pro 32bit SP1 + IE 8.0.6 = no go

the "custom search" field does not appear.

If the user uses the only visble search field (which is the generic Google search IIRC), they get "no results returned"...

Chrome V31 on the same WinXP install works OK.

Happy Modelling,
Aim to Improve,
Prof Klyzlr

PS Yes, there are still many XP machines out there, and XP will not install IE 9 or 10.

The best use of IE

Quote:

As you may have heard, the best use of Internet Explorer is for downloading a better browser ... (wink)

Your example is just one more case in point ...

When someone reports a problem with the MRH website to us, if we assume IE then 95% of the time we're right.

At this point IE is used by just under 40% of our site visitors, but it's almost always the browser that's failing.

Yes, A Big Improvement

I tried the new search today and it worked well for me.  I'm happy.

I'm running Windows XP Home, SP3 and used Firefox with no problems.  Just for the heck of it, I tried using the search with IE8 and the custom search box below the words Model Railroad Hobbyist - Google Site Search was not present.  Clicking on the words Custom Search just above that brought me to a sign-in window for Google.

Yep, IE is wrought with problems (in my experience).

IE 8?

Does compatibility mode work for IE users that are having problems?

Nope to Compatibility View

OK, just for the heck of it, I tried IE8 again, this time using the compatibility view.  No joy.

Really doesn't matter to me though as I gave up on IE several years ago.

Firefox works fine for me.

Internet explorer?

just tested it and works fine in IE explorer here.  I have no idea what version it is as I don't usually use it and I think it keeps updating it's self. ......DaveB

iOS 5 - iPad2 will support iOS 6, and you should update to that and then install the Chrome browser.

iPad1's can only do iOS5, but iPad2's can go to iOS6. Contact the Apple Store if you need help.

I assume you're clicking the MRH search (Google) link at the top right of our website page, get to the MRH Custom Google search page, and then what you describe above is on the MRH Custom Google search page?

What I'm not clear on is you say you search on a term, get suggestions, then do a search and the screen dims.

Why are you trying to do another search? What happens if you click on one of the suggestions instead of doing a new search?

Bryan - try a hard reset

Bryan:

Since Rick reports his iPad2 on iOS5 works fine, then I'd suggest a hard reset of your iPad and then see how it works.

Sounds like getting a "freshie" (completely fresh browser view after a reboot) might help.

Joe...

The iPad 2 can go to ios7, but I don't want that mess on my iPad or phone.... I don't want to install Chrome just to use the search function, everything else works fine. When I click the link to the Google search page, I enter a search term, say DCC..I get suggestions, chhose one of them and click the gray box. I also tried entering DCC and touch the SEARCH button on the iPad keyboard, nothing..... Screen dims and then just sits there..... Regular google search page works fine....FRUSTRATING! Video:
