moe photos

Photo 1 is of the shipping department of the Foundry,2 is of Two of the Boxcabs at the East end of the line. 3 is at the west end, the West interchange tray attaches to the left of the box car. The last photo shows the East interchange tray in place and the other trays stored under the layout.

Pretty Neat...

Pretty neat!  How many cars can fit in each of the trays?  Can they hold an entire incoming "train"?  Also, do you operate the boxcar as a coupled pair, separate them and use them to switch cars independantly?

Thanks for posting!

Damin.

Most of the trays are five

Most of the trays are five feet long, four or five cars. I one at six feet but cut it in half to make the trays for the west in transfer, long to handle at six feet. I run two of the boxcabs MUed together more reliable operation on dirty track, although I don't have much trouble there since I added slider pick ups to the boxcabs. If I had DCC it would be fun to split them up while switching. Facing point sidings would be a snap. The Iowa Terminal at Mason City would run with an engine at the rear of the train for just that reason, but I enjoy the extra work to run around the cars. Most of my trains are five or six cars long after they have work the sidings and pulled the transfer. If the train gets longer then seven or eight cars I cut it in two and double the run back to town, they pull too hard on the tight curves.
