Occasionally one needs a little diversion from other model railroad projects.

The picture below represents one of those diversion projects, actually it shows two. The truck and trailer will be a cement bag hauler. The cab over truck is an Athearn product. The trailer is a kit bash from two different trailers. The idea behind the cement trailer will be a cement distribution diorama with several cement storage silos with a railroad siding.

The Kato N scale chassis the truck is hauling will become an HOn30 electric tram that will haul cars for the Cooledge Consolidated Crushed Rock Corporation of my New York, Vermont & Northern Railroad. See my blog on the  Aggregate Company tram line.

The trailer is not finished yet. I plan on loading it up with cement bags for one thing, plus it still needs some little detail parts added to make it look more realistic.

Here's where I got my inspiration from:

In the upper left are a whole bunch of bag hauling trailers. I also like the five trucks in the front line up. They look to be in the early to mid fifties era.  I've been researching on the net to see if I can find manuals and such on the trailers they are hauling. I'm thinking of another diversion project such as doing some masters of those trailers and doing some resin castings. No, I'm not going to Shapeways for something like this. I get enjoyment out of doing it myself.

Here's a better view of a cement bag hauler:

These are the little kinds of projects I like to do when I get burned out with a larger project such as the Critter project. I'll keep up dating this post as things get worked on.

Overhead Traveling Crane ( Pwrd )

Would like to see a article on putting a N-Scale pwr truck in Walthers Large traveling crane to go into a planned steel industry. I'm pretty sure some one has already done this. Plz I need ideas...

Powered Crane

I found a video of a container crane on u-tube that used N scale trucks. I'll see if I can find it again and post it in this thread. Keep an eye out for my response. If you don't see any thing  in a couple of days give me a kick in the seat of my pants to jog my memory.

Found it

This guy is in Germany and speaks German describing what he's done. He has a complete series on building an HO scale container crane. He uses the same Kato power truck that I have on the trailer. At almost the 1 minute mark you'll see what he did. I believe he also uses the power truck on all the other axis's of the crane.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Bernd

P.S. turn down the volume if you don't want to hear him talk.

Wow that was quick. Great response

Don't have room for that on my modest layout .. but thanks for the ideas . This German fella must have some "Texan " in him . Cuz in Texas that's what we do..  Ha Ha !  In the future . I plan on more room available for the steel industry. Have been collecting  Blast furnace kits Mill Kits , Ladle cars, slag cars ,hopper cars Mill gondolas , Mill flats , ingot cars and such.  Looking to build a 5' x 22' island for that using a lot of Walther's and scratch building 's to do this .  Need a good 20' x 45' building for this .  This info is out there

                                                                                  thank you guys

Thank you Bernd

my Model R.R. ( temporarily )  goes by the name Of C C & E R.R.  An imaginary Division of BNSF located in the Southern Missouri , Ark ,And Ok area. Starts at Sikeston , Mo. and branches down to Jonesboro, Ar and the Northwest to the Branson Area and on to Ft Smith , Ar and then to Miami , OK, This is a joint venture of UP/ MP and BNSF with share rail .  Era is Modern Diesel 80's to present ./

I use a Digitrax Command system ,  Layout is in a 16' x 11' Spare room . It's an around the room layout on several levels that could be separated into a much larger arrangement in the future. Has at present about 300' of track including the yard and Island's.

The layout keeps morphing it seems, and growing will eventually happen in a larger environment. There are about 37 turn outs on the layout , mostly manual . I have grown fond of Peco Code 83 .

No I do not have a Heilex.. I use a hill that stretches around the room twice and is about 2.6% at it's steepest, but unfortunately requires a lift out and a duck under to get into the room. Like I said Morphed .

The new building will allow  a new rail route to St Louis and to E. St Louis. This will have to be a Club endeavor.

After I wrote the response I remembered I had it in my Favorites. I plan some day to build a diorama of some thing similar to what he has done, SOMEDAY!

Sounds like you've got quite a railroad jammed into a small area. So you're interested in the steel industry ,eh? Here's a link to a forum about such modeling.

Have fun.
