For those of you that like odd tank cars, take a look at my cars. They range from a 2225 gal Bromine car to a 43,800 gal eight axle ethylene glycol RailWhale. All are real cars that I scratch built from drawings with the exception of two. Those are kit bashes. Also at the site you'll find a three axle 11' wheelbase Buckeye truck that I cast for one of my cars. It was not avaliable in any form, and as far as I know it still isn't. Yes, I did two! LOL

Tank Car Models

Those look great. What scale are they in? I am thinking they have to be at least 1/48 to incorporate all that detail.

Tank Car Models

Irv,

Thanks. No, they are HO. Every time I take the Bromine car out of its box, I'm amazed how small it is, and I built the thing! The spacing between the trucks is less than the width of one of the trucks.

Thanks again, Bobby

Maybe you could do a the two dome bromide tank car as an article here.  If you don't have progress pictures, just tell us in written detail.

Tank Cars

Steamage,

The two dome car hauls motor oil. While I was finishing my car, OMI came out with a brass model of the car. I bought one, and they can be found on ebay once in a while. I built my car from an article and drawings by Chuck Youngkurth in RMC in 1988. Later there was a construction article in RMC on building the two dome and the three dome version. I wish I knew the issue, but it was most likely 1990. I built the Bromine car from a article in MR Feb. 2001. It was a O gauge build, but the drawings were very good.

very nice models

Very nice models - and clean photos.  What does "brass hauled" mean?  Are the models scratch built of brass- that's even more impressive.

Thanks for sharing

Tank Cars

   Artarms,

Thank you very much. Yes the two cars are scratched in brass. This was my first photo site and I did a poor job of labeling the photos. As for the photos, you should have seen how many I deleted! VBG!

Abbreviated Subject Thread & Older one

Oh my goodness this is an OLD subject thread. Perhaps I shouldn't have brought it back to life,...at least according to some folks. img.png

I believe I posted a number of other photos of his work on this forum, but don't recall where at the moment.

Cat

Is the Cat in HO scale also, very nice work on the cars.

"HO" TRAINS ARE MY LIFE...AND "N" AND "AMERICAN FLYER" AND "LIONEL" AND EBAY.

WITHOUT CLOSETS, MODEL MANUFACTURERS WOULD NEVER BE PROFITABLE.

REALLY NICE

Those would give the prototypes a run for the money in a side by side photo shoot!

After ONE PROTO 2000 type 21 tank kit I built back late 1990's.  I will stick to my fat finger kits.  LOL

That H.D. shop was a bit dusty at times.... could cough up a Sportster if need.

(I see a master craftsman in those fine models in HO Bobby.)
