Chris Adams

Hi guys,  I've been lurking here for a while and just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Chris and I'm modeling the New Haven Railroad's Connecticut River Valley Line as it was in October, 1947.  I'll be modeling the "Air Line" as well, since it crossed the Valley line at grade in Middletown, CT.

I have two (fairly) completed 2x8' modules that represent the Air Line portion.  They're freelanced, using structures I inherited from a friend, but the scenery is all mine and my first attempt at it.  The rest of the layout (so far) is in a 13x19' room and represents the Valley line from Hartford (staging) to Middletown.  Eventually, it'll extend into the other room and pass through the towns of East Haddam, Deep River, Essex (site of the Essex Steam Train) and finally Old Saybrook on the New Haven's famed Shore Line Route.

The track & benchwork are done for the Hartford to Middletown section and is all prototypically accurate (well, within reason).  My main goal is to recreate the line, buildings, industries and scenery so you really get the feeling you've traveled back in time.  My new website & blog are dedicated to documenting my progress and (hopefully) getting additional information - both prototype info as well as modeling info.

So if you have a chance, swing by & visit me at http://www.thevalleylocal.net and if you do, drop a line & let me know how I'm doing!

Regards,

Chris

Welcome Chris

Welcome Chris

We're glad to have you.  I only had a minute to visit your website, but what I saw looked very nice.  It was very clean and easy to follow.

Please post more as you progress - especially pictures.

Good work Chris

I especially enjoyed the pinning down when the last steam engines ran in the area being modeled. I will be following your blog post to see how it comes along. Great work, Larry

So many trains, so little time,

Chris:  Great shot of 3022 in Middletown. Wish I had seen her there when I was an engineer on Connecticut Central.         Rick

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not yet sure of the etiquette here as far as posting links to an off-MRH blog - I just know it's not a good idea to double or cross-post. So I hope you'll check in there from time to time and I'll also try to post some original content here too. BTW Larry - thanks for the compliment on the "last steam" post. As it happens, I have some additional information on at that that I hope to post soon. Thanks again! Chris Http://thevalleylocal.net
