In response to the " Members location directory?" thread, I have created an online community map for MRH membership.

Pin yourself on and let's see how our community looks!

Please don't feel that you have to pin your exact location. Your City, County, or Municipality is enough.

PLEASE INCLUDE THESE ITEMS:

  1. Name or MRH Username
  2. Choose your pin based on your preferred scale
  3. A link to your MRH user Profile (under "MRH Profile & Contact" on the details tab)
  4. Your Scale (under "Scale" on the details tab, ex: "HO", "HO, N", "G, Z")

Optionally Include:

  1. Address
  2. Email
  3. Description of your Railroad
  4. Photo
  5. Website and Blog links
  6. Whatever else you feel is important

Instructions for adding or editing your Marker are in the first 2 comments of this thread.

MAP HAS MOVED TO NEW LOCATION

Done!

This is great- you read the posts and responses, and you may or may not remember a poster is from this country or whatever, but now on a map you can SEE the great base this mag has all over the world.  Nothing like a visual to put things in perspective!

p.s. I wanted to put my real name in my location flag, but that isn't how I'm known here, except for the tag at the end of my posts - "Steve in Iowa City".  Sorry about that.  I don't mean to be impersonal.  However, if you are at a train show and see a guy with long-ish and slightly-graying (sigh) hair, a sterling silver skull ring on his right ring-finger, and a (probably) bored-out-of-her mind but politely browsing along with her man- the beautiful CFO of the Meramec Scenic Ltd- and he is wearing a ball-cap with a 'Ironhand_13' Army name-tape on the back of said cap...it's me!

I'm added.

Fascinating idea. I wonder who will be the first to use it as a vacation planning aid?

Colors

What do the different colors represent?

Colors

I think that it is just what you pick.

I chose orange because that is the predominant GWI's color.

Thank you for starting this, Bill. I had the same thought as Jeff...while on vacation, you could check to see who's nearby and check out their layouts. Hope more will jump in. Perhaps a future MRH article to encourage casual readers to join in? Thanks again! BTW--I added mine with an iPad. It didn't seem to take until I allowed it to add the lat/long coordinates. Then submit seemed to work.

Colors

Yep,  appears that the colors are up to us.

Would be cool if we could be coordinated enough to have each color represent a scale.

Pinned myself a little while ago.  Once you get on the map you can drag and drop your location if you like to fine tune your location.

Problematic on a tablet

On my Android tablet I had to click on "Full Map" to get to the Additions menu. And forget trying to edit your entry - that is reserved for desktop computers, apparently.

Edits on tablets

Hey Jeff- If you find your flag and tap on it, your "card" will come up. If you tap on your member name (in your case 'JeffSchultz' at top of the card) that should open the "change entry" box. Then try to edit and save again. I just went and switched pin colors and got it to work. In looking at the bottom of the map I saw the number of pins. It's pretty neat that there are already 96 entries in less than 24 hours.

Not down south it hasn't...

Do I have to register to pin my location?

Edit:  Nope, answered my own question, registration is not required...
