"Ads Not by this site"?!

Anyone else seeing this message in small grey print on the forum? (I haven't looked at the online magazine.) I'm using Windows 8 (ugh), Chrome Ad Block Plus and / or Ad Block Pro.

There are also artifacts of ads it is trying to display.

I'm having a heck of a time posting this message!

Malware

Your computer is infected.

http://www.google.ca/search?q=ads+not+by+this+site

A Malware application is trying to superimpose ads on top of the website you are visiting and may also be doing other nasty things in the background.

Suggested action: Get your PC off the web and to a computer tech to clean it up.

"ads not by this site" can get installed with other software.

I have not installed anything for some time. I am also careful to read the install options during an install. not sure how it got there. I have uninstalled couple of programs I did not recognize. ran a scan and removed an extension from Chrome. In my goggling I found out this is adware that can affect IE, Firefox as well as Chrome. Maybe I'm just having a bad day and it wont infect anyone else.

Avast

This is pretty darn good anti-virus, anti-malware protection for free.  http://www.avast.com/en-us/index

Avast

Agree.  I have used the free version of Avast for years and years, and have never had a problem *knock on wood*.  It is easy to install, updates itself daily and has been trouble free the whole time I have used it.

I also happily use and

I also happily use and endorse Avast, but it's fundamentally an antivirus program and adware is subtly different... I suggest you also have a dedicated adware/malware program. I use Iobit Malware Fighter myself, and have no problems... (it's free)

Check out this site also.  I use both Avast (free version highly recommend!) and Malwarebytes on my pc.   Have not had any issues to speak of.

Interesting how things can resurface.

I did fix the problem 6 months ago and have been fine ever after...
