I have always had a soft spot for SCL's BQ23-7's, since I have learnt how to draw to produce 3D printed objects this was one project that had been on the bucket list for a long time.

First task was to assemble everything I needed, an Atlas B23-7, a set of Blomberg truck frames from Atlas, decals and paint for CSX.

I dismantled the locomotive and measured up and drew up the cab in Sketchup.

After checking all fitted the 3 parts were glued together using serious glue from evo stick.

All the handrails were reusable except the 2 in front of the cab, these were fabricated out of brass wire.

A stand was made for the hand brake and a pilot hole for the horn on top of the cab. Everything was assembled and given a coat of tamiya fine primer grey.

The body then got a coat of CSX grey, front pilots blue and handrails yellow. Decals attched and given a coat of Microscale flat. A light wash of black was given to the vents.

The replacement Blomberg truck frames and fuel tank were painted CSX blue.

The locomotive then was assembled and here we have it to date.

I need to add some windows and give it some weathering.

Cool

Alexander,

Great looking model! Did the cab require more than one try?

Thanks The only alteration

Thanks

The only alteration I had to make to the original drawing was add 0.2mm to the rear cab wall other than that it fitted okay.

Very Nice!

Although personally I have always found the BQ23-7 to be one of the ugliest designs out there, it was the precursor to today's Safety or Comfort Cabs.  That aside, your model looks like a fantastic rendition of the prototype and a very accurate portrayal.  It might look better in SCL black, though...

Thanks

Hi Alan

It is strange how generally much loathed the BQ23-7's were in the US, being brought up in the UK with our normally flat faced cowl bodied diesels they look ok.

SWEET

I've been wanting to do one of these for years - even have the Atlas loco, paint, etc.  Just could never get to the cab.  Thanks for making this available for sale - I see yet another loco bashing project in my future.

Impressive.

That really looks good - other than maybe the missing windows (do N scale locomotive normally come with clear plastic inserts?) it looks like it just rolled out of a factory.

I wonder how much work it

I wonder how much work it would take to adapt this to the C30-7? It was an option.I will be ordering mine in about a month.
