Portage is the western staging terminus (semi-hidden) on my Milwaukee Road - Old Line.

The four stub-ended staging tracks are two each at 140" and 150" in length.  The staging lead is a 2.5% grade up to the interchange with the main layout.

Here is a mock-up of the panel that will control the yard throat.

The line starts in Milwaukee (another semi-hidden staging terminus) and travels through Horicon, Randolph and Cambria as it makes two loops around the walls of my 19'6" by 18' room.  This layout is roughly based on the Red Rock Northern published plan, with prototypical towns and track arrangements in those towns.

The Old Line is a point to point layout operating in the mid 1950's that will focus on secondary mainline traffic and operations.  There is an option for continuous running as well.  Minimum radius is 30" with easements.

That's some fine looking benchwork sir!

I like your plan a lot.  Just looking at it I can see how easily it could shrink to N scale and I also see the operations potential there.

Great job and keep the progress pictures coming!

Cheers!

45 Degree Braces

Bench work looks great but you need some 45 degree braces running back to plate on wall. You can use some 1 x 2 to do it.   if some one trips and grabs on or leans on it that nice bench work will give. Hope this gives you idea. I put one every other cross piece.  Or 32" The distance in this picture is bench work is 30' wide  Yours looks like maybe two feet you can reduce it in size only need to come past the 1' mark to create the strength.

I have no legs to floor. For many reasons.

Thanks for the idea!

Art,

Thanks for the idea of running a stringer along the wall!  You were absolutely right, It makes a huge difference in stabilizing the benchwork.  Here is a picture of my latest section of benchwork.
