Is  it compulsory to purchase the relative Kato part to operate the Kato unitrack switches or is there an alternative method. I have Peco motors and there's 3 wires for the operation of the switch.I note that there's only 2 wires out of the Kato switch.Sorry but I can't figure out how to operate these switches using the same method as for the Peco. Any ideas please

Kato switches

They work differently. The Kato switches have only 1 coil. You would need a momentary contact push button, or a spring loaded DPDT switch. This page will explain better.....Mike

Kato Switches

I found 6 pin Toggle DPDT on - off -on momentary switches on e-bay . They mention 15A 250V . Is that relevant to my usage?

Source for switches

q_rail,

The answers to the question about the eBay switches follows. The current ratting 15A is fine for this application, 5A would suffice. The voltage rating is not critical.

I have provided sources for other switches you could use. The first is a flat handle and the second is a round handle.

eBay

q_rail,

eBay is OK, I shop there all the time. Any problems and the sellers or eBay have made right. Just read the fine print, Know the value of any item before bidding, or you will pay too much. Look at a seller,s feedback and check their history. If they have a number of old names then shy away from them.

I have purchased from Jameco for about 20 years, and have had few problems, Any problems have been resolved quickly. Good luck with the project.

Regards, John

Was going to Jameco but theit policy is for minimum $30 on international orders but I don't want that many of these switches at the moment.Had a slice of good luck locally - on the off chance I called in to the local electronics shop and he fished around and found a few of the ones I wanted - his price $4.95 ea. So I got one to try it out. Thanks and regards Tom

Switch source in Aust, power with DC

Dear ??? (q-rail),

The centre-off momentary DPDT switches are available at your local Jaycar store

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ST0358

You should use a 12VDC (Yes, specifically DC) PSU, such as this, also available from Jaycar

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MP3486

Hope this helps,

Happy Modelling,
Aim to improve,
Prof Klyzlr

PS: IF you are determined to use an AC supply, it is possible, but will require different wiring to that shown on the FiferHobby link from above.
