A QUESTION

Awhile back I posted on my blog some photos of Walthers Steel Mill structures that I had built for a friend/client. They were shown there just fine for sometime, but now they are gone with nothing but a big blank box with some kind of icon in the middle. The verbiage is still there but no photos. What happened? Did I violate some posting rule?

Are the photos..

still on your file browser on your "My Account" page? If they are, there could have been some server issues, and just need to be re-linked.

Richard, maybe ...

... if these are the posts you refer to:

Steel Mill and Steel Mill Part 2

I do not see any images - not even the blank box.

If you do get the blank box, put your mouse on the box, then right click and select image info from the popup menu. From that, you can see where the image is stored. If you have no access to that URL, then that explains why you cannot see it. Did you post these images to your "richhard01" file directory on Model Railroad Hobbyist or were they from someplace else?

I hope this will help you find them.

Question Anwsered

Thanks guys, I think I know what happened, I had a senior moment and after your responses I looked on my account page and they are not there. I believe that I deleted them to clear up space as I was getting to the full number. Thanks again.

About deleting photos

Richard:

Arbitrarily deleting photos from your user storage area on here is a really bad idea because it breaks threads, rendering them useless.

We backup our site periodically, so we restored the photos you deleted, which brings the threads back.

We also have a special upgrade to superuser for forum regulars who need more space, so besides restoring the missing photos, we've also upgraded your account to superuser, which doubles the space you can use for photos and other attachments on here (128 MB instead of 64 MB).

As you now realize, you should only ever delete images if you KNOW they're not used in a thread somewhere.

If you find you are still hurting for photo posting space, you should get yourself a free Flickr account - Flickr users now get 1 Terabyte (1000 GB) free. That's right, tons of space for photos - more than we could ever give out for free. Then just paste the URL to your Flickr photo in the photo button dialog box, make sure the photo is less than 800 pixels wide and you're good to go. With that much space, you should never want for space to put photos unless you really are photo crazy!

Deleting Photos

Thank you Joe for upgrading me, I appreciate it very much. I will look at opening a Flicker account.

so I don't have to agree to someone's TOS...

I personally host my own blog, I have my own domain, my own hosting. I do not have to worry about running out of attachment space, and I do not run up forum admin's costs by using their space and bandwidth....you can go to a major domain/hosting company that sponsors a winning Indycar driver and get your own for about $36.00 for the first year (go for multiple years to save money, do not go monthly). Get a linux econ hosting account, and you can have them install Wordpress for free...

am I the only N Scale Pacific Electric Freight modeler in the world?

Yes, you can do that ...

Yes, you can do that, and if you have the technical know-how, more power to you.

However, we want to improve the blogging and posting capabilities of this site over time to encourage as many model railroaders as possible to put their blogs and content on here. One way to think of it is it's a vote for our free-to-readers business model and will help drive more traffic here.

By hanging together on the web with others of like-passion, I think we stand the best chance of ensuring the hobby's future in this century.

Own Blog

I too started and still have own web site. I just paid bill for two years $89.00 fat cow.com

But do very little up dating, it is their as reference to all for the steps and photo record of the railroad construction.

MRH Blog brings far more exposure and interest. I have also found that HD video works a lot better. 99% of my server space is at you tube. I have keep count of hits on MRH Blog and it just short of 100,000. All but a few post are still their. It is a reference for people to come back to.

People take the path of least resistance. They do not want to go some were else to hear or see the rest of the story.
