I suspected that there would be some issues with building sections apart from one another. After some judicious cutting and fitting, it seems that things will be looking good. It may not fit in my space, but another inch or two out of my aisle will only affect me. The side benefit of the lone wolf modeler.

This will be the the town center with station on the curve, and team track in the foreground. The freight station to the right with the coal dealer beyond.

From the other end (although this view will never be possible on the layout)

The trestle on the left will become the coal dock. You can also see the curve in the plywood sub-roadbed that will but against the curved backdrop. Juaquin (bottom right) has learned to walk to the side and not down the tracks.

As soon as the balance the rails are spiked down I will have to test for continuity or may end up with some surprises when the DCC is connected!

It's time that I get going on painting the backdrop so not reaching over the layout. I've really wanted to use photo backdrops but want something that looks tropical. This is really a great excuse to ask a buddy to fly my down the coast so I can get some panoramic shots

Nice Work

What you have done so far is looking real nice. Your hand laid track is outstanding. How will you be joining the two sections together?

I look forward to seeing additional photos posted as your work progresses.

Connecting Sections

To be honest, these are clamped together and it works well for working on them out on the patio. I have a pile if "T" nuts that can be pressed into a hole one the less accessible side of one and run a bolt with washer thru the other side. With a socket wrench this works pretty fast. My sections are intended for a permanent location but it is to be mounted at 54" above the floor so working on sections at my desk is much easier. The track work isn't all that great but I'm getting better. The rail is all salvaged from Walther's flex track that I had hoped to re-use. It was well glued to pine roadbed and ballasted with waterproof glue so ... Some things just help you make hard decisions. I've laid most of the rail in this area so will take some more pics soon.
