This video shows how to lay stock rails, frog rails, closure rails and the frog for the Switch-Works "Ultimate" turnout. Switch-Works is a set of jigs for assembling "Museum Standard" track featuring wooden ties, metal tie plates, etched frogs and machined points.

As part of the 4th Div. PNR NMRA Spring Meet, Andy Reichert's Proto:87 Stores was kind enough to lend us some of the Switch-Works tools and provide us with kits for a clinic on how to build the "Ultimate Turnout".  As a special thanks to Andy I wanted to put out some videos to help promote Proto:87 Stores products.

Nice work, Greg

Say, did that curved stock rail ever lie down flat for you? It looks like it was lifting and moving all over the place when you were installing the frog. Probably when you're doing it for real, you give the glue a little more time to set up before pushing and pulling the frog around. Also, I'm sure the filming makes it difficult, but your viewers should know that the gauge through the throat of the frog is critically important as well. Love the super-speedy gluing on tie plates! Wish I could do that. Enjoying the series. Keep up the great work! Rene

Moving rail

Thanks Rene,

You're right, you should allow the stock rail glue to set before installing the frog, this gives you a nice solid reference point. And gauge the frog from all approaches.
Sorry for the errors, I had very little time to build this turnout and film this video (The two hours in between dropping off and picking up my son from preschool). I did have more footage of gauging the frog, but wound up with a lot of unusable hands in front of video camera footage. Thanks, Greg
