Hello all. I have attached a photo to this message in hopes that someone can enlighten me. The photo is on Swan Street in Jacksonville FL looking down the old ACL line that served industries in this area. Right in the middle of the picture between the switch points you can see a wooden deck of some type. I assume the device that enabled the conductor or the ground man to throw the points was under this deck. So does anyone know what it might have looked like and how it worked?

street throws

looks like that switch is out of service. The throw was probably in the patched asphalt between the points. The boards farther back are just to allow traffic to run over it, they didn't pave that area so they could work on the switch easier or maybe because they replaced the parts long ago. The throws between the points is just a lever type device linked to the points. I've seen them on the outside of the rails too in metal covered boxes like street utility boxes..DaveBranum

Neat pictures

Jeff nice pictures. And I can see how the one here in Jacksonville might have looked very similar. The throwbar was actually level with the street. At least down here they didn't have to remove the ice and snow in the winter.

Yes Dave this track hasn't been used in many, many years. But I love the fact they left it intact in the street. It makes for some nice historical perspective.

Here's a pic showing one with the throw lever between the points, instead of off to the side.
