OK - I can't remember who posted a picture on this website of a yard with a speaker, but I found my picture of an L&N yard with old #2500 sitting right next to a speaker.  The photo gives you a nice closeup of the speaker unit.

I've seen those in SP yards too.

sometimes with a brake hose or MU cable hanging on them.

Yard Speakers

Rick,

The photo below shows one of the yard speakers at Hollister Yard on the CWE. These speakers were found at most of the major C&O yards back in the day. I originally thought I was going to have to figure out a way to scratch-build these, but then I found this great casting by Details West.

Thanks, Tom!  Now I remember

Thanks, Tom!  Now I remember where I saw the yard speakers - it was on you website in the picture you just posted to this thread.  When I get my yard going on my new layout (yet to be built) I'll have to see about getting some of these as they add a nice little detail.
