I created an extensive backdrop blog last night, May 11 and now it's gone.  Can someone confirm if it's truly unavailable or was just marked as spam?  It took quite some time to build an I don't want to re-create if I don't have to.

Yup

I was able to get into the blog at https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/treelines-a-backdrop-on-the-8th-sub-12193480 using a direct link I had stored.  "Marked as spam" showed a value of 99, so I clicked "mark as not spam."  Since the blog is obviously not spam, I hope it was inadvertently marked, and won't disappear again.

Wow.

Hard to believe anyone would mark your incredible model work and meticulously detailed and well thought out posts as SPAM. I guess there is always the possibility of jealousy or something of that sort. More likely that it was simply a mistake. I am assuming this will be straightened out by the Powers That Be here in short order.

I just posted to it and it was working fine.

Refresh your screen, maybe.

I know I personally clicked

I know I personally clicked on "mark as spam" once (a year ago or so) as a brain fart, instead of clicking "reply" like I intended... with profuse apologies, of course.

...it happens...and will probably happen again! And without malice of forethought.

With all these mobile devices

With all these mobile devices and touch screens, maybe someone fat-fingered it. I've done it before, but immediately sent an email to MRH indicating what I did and the article in question.  It happens.

It was marked again

I suspect this isn't a coincidence.    Hopefully a site administrator can tell who's been doing it and take the appropriate action.

Coincidence?

Rob,

I do think it is coincidence. With tablets and cell phones it is very very easy to mark something as spam accidentally. I had this happen to me: you place your finger on a spot to scroll down and, flick upwards, and then place your finger on the screen to flick it again, only to land on 'mark as spam' and the link to trigger.

A solution could be to have the 'mark as spam' link show a pop-up asking for a confirmation, or allow a person who marks a thread as 'spam' to also be able to unmark it.

May have been accidental.

I bookmarked your blog yesterday so that I can check for up dates more easily on your outstanding model railroad.  I've gone back three pages on the "recent posts" section and it doesn't how up, but when I opened the main page of your blog from my bookmark, the backdrop blog is at the top of the list and opens fine.

Tom Johnson's Weathered C-420 Thread Now Gone

https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/some-weathered-alco-c420s-12193429  I had a link to it, and poof - it disappeared.  Maybe it's just me noticing more since I've been hit several times in recent days, but it seems more threads than usual are being reported as spam lately.

Thread

It has been unspammed. We will ask the minions to track that one as well. Seems unusual.  Accidental spam-marking has been a fairly rare occurence.

Please message joef@mrhmag.com, jeffs@mrhmag.com or joeb@mrhmag.com if this happens again.

No confirm on "mark as SPAM"?

After reading this I wondered about how the "mark as SPAM" thing worked, as I had almost inadvertently clicked it myself. Glad I didn't test, as it apparently is set to instantly send? Seems like it should have a confirm menu popup to avoid wrong clicks, which are pretty easy to do, especially for the guys driving down the freeway browsing MHR on their "smartphones"....

P.S. This reminds me of something I saw about a psychological test where people were put in a room and told that something bad would happen if they pressed a button. Most people could not resist the urge / temptation to press the button for very long....

I too have had posts

I too have had posts disappear down the spam drain.

Perhaps the rise of the smart phones really is behind this? Or maybe a spammer is taking revenge on the MRH forum's anti-spam promptness and is deliberately marking stuff as spam to get even?

...

It might be an idea to move the mark as spam link to the bottom right, away from the reply link?  That should rule out accidental clicking on "smart" devices.

Just checked the spam queue - it's clean

Just checked the spam queue - and it's all trash or posts we want spammed.

We check it every so often and resurrect legitimate posts. We've seen very few instances of deliberate trashing of other members' posts. Almost always, it's accidental.

I've even accidentally spammed the same post more than once when I'm moderating the site on a mobile device.

If you are the author of a thread that got spammed and you have the direct URL in a browser, you can get to the original post and click: mark as not spam. Moderators can also unspam a post if you can provide the URL or title of the post/thread.
