 Been working on a few custom models for my steel mill. I seen a picture of a 3 truck slag car but with the sharp curves around my steel mill I didn't know if it would try to derail or not. I come up with an articulate 3 truck slag car. Here is the start of the car. I use the trucks from the Walthers kit and a coupling from an inter moble car from Athearn.100_4915.jpg 100_4916.jpg

Project continues.

After looking at the car for a couple days I didn't think the 2 axle truck filled the center of the car very well and also the center will have to support more weight. I changed the truck out with a 3 axle truck but doing this I did have to do some modifications to the cars body so it wouldn't interfere while going around curves. 100_4919.jpg

Freelance or prototype?

Is this a freelanced car?  If so, it makes great sense for a steel mill, since there's one fewer truck to maintain per pair of cars--if the weight of the car on that center truck isn't excessive.  Looks GREAT!

As far as I know there is no prototype for this model. Like I said earlier I have seen a 3 truck slag car but it wasn't articulated. Attached is a picture of one I got off ebay. tpd60_57.jpg
