To All: Today I present some photos of a CSX switcher crossing to the north on FEC's rolling lift bridge that crosses the St. John's River, in Jacksonville, Florida. The switcher is heading to home rails after dropping off a transfer train at the Florida East Coast RR's Bowdon Yard. The date is May 1, 2013. The last photos are of the Main Street auto bridge and the St.John's River Water Taxi. Jacksonville is known as the "River City". The numerous bridges developed the city in the early 20th century. Also a large mover in Jacksonville's early 20th century history was Henry Flagler and his expanded Florida East Coast Railroad. His visionary efforts were responsible for the wide spread settlement of Florida, especially the east coast (called the "First Coast"). Yours,Elvin Howland/E.St. Louis Rail Group Layout

Great photos of the beginning of my favorite railroad

If I remember correctly FEC MP0 is at north end of the bridge. The start of my favorite railroad. there is a photo on the web(maybe fallen flags) of an FEC SW1200 in the original red and yellow with a refrigerator car on that bridge.

There is quite a bit of

There is quite a bit of traffic that comes back and forth across that bridge. I have noticed that when CSX and FEC do transfers they typically only use one loco. The Norfolk Southern usually uses two or more. A few weeks ago I saw an SD70M-2 on the point with two Dash types in trail. Its a good place to walk around and watch the boats and trains roll by.

Beautiful city

I'm from Jax but currently living in NC. I miss it back home!

Interesting operations along that stretch of railroad. A lot of transfer runs between CSX, NS, and FEC. Even though it's owned by FEC, I rarely see an FEC train cross the bridge.

Another view

If you go under the Acosta Bridge on Museum Circle by the museum parking lot, thats a great place to get some close ups of the trains as they roll by.
