Sean Martin

My wife and I were driving back from Vegas and we decided to listen to an audio book.  My wife chose, "The Wrecker", by Clive Cussler.  She said it's a Clive Cussler book with a trains!  You'll like it.

We are only half way through the book but we are enjoying it immensely.  I don't want to give away too much but it deals with the Southern Pacific during the begining of the 20th Century and a "villian" out to destroy the SP.

Very enjoyable and a lot of good train details.

Enjoy!

Trains and Isaac Bell

Most of his "Isaac Bell" novels deal a lot with trains--"The Chase" does also--and makes the Andrews Raid look small...

isaac bell novels

are a good read.  clive cusler writes fun, escapist stuff that is a nice distraction.  the bell novels are fun and cusler does a good job with the railroad related aspects.

Some oopsies...

He does write fine yarns, but there's some oopsies.  For example, someone was driving a Model T Ford in 1906, and I think there were a few locomotives that were in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Still, fantastic escapist lit--and lots of FUN!

I should probably read

I should probably read it. I'm a big reader but almost always first-person non-fiction from military or space program people. I very rarely read fiction at all. That said, someone said I HAD to read, "Vixen 03" which is a must read if you have a soft spot for battleships. It's a darned good but highly implausible story: http://www.amazon.com/Vixen-03-Novel-Clive-Cussler/dp/0440423147

Classic cars, too

Cussler has a large collection of fine classic cars, too. He's a member of the club of which I am a past prez, the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club. He works one of his cars into most of his Dirk Pitt novels, including his Auburn, Cord and Dusenberg. Rattling' good yarns, and us train and car guys can enjoy them especially.
