Angelo

Hi friends,
today, I tried to make pictures with some types of light sources to simulate the night or late sunset lights.
I present here some photos. Are well accepted opinions and advices.

Night Photos

Angelo,

Very nice work. Great mood. Nice to see someone who isn't afraid of shadows!

I'm not a big fan of added smoke. It's soooo hard to recreate the three dimensional shape and energy of the exhausting gases. I'm still working on my techniques, but still not ready for prime time. The street lights and headlights need to be toned down a bit.

Keep up the good work!! Thanks for posting them! Looking forward to seeing your next efforts...

Nice work

I like it! Good job.

It appears there is still some room lighting that is making the scenes appear not quite night time. If you are using very long (bulb) exposures, you might be able to turn the room lights off halfway through the exposure to emphasize the on-layout lighting.

Another option might be to use a blue night-light bulb (about 7 watts) to simulate moonlight. This would also help with some of the sky-light reflections such as on the loco boiler.

If you're looking for a very late afternoon but the sun-isn't-quite-down-yet effect, lighting the scene with a "sun" way off to one side so the light comes in at a very low angle might give a nice effect.

But like I said, good job, I enjoyed looking at them!

Realist effect

You have made some convincing images, Angelo. Number three is my favorite because of (1) the difference in lighting intensity between the pole light and ambient light, (2) the "warmer" color of the pole light versus the ambient and (3) the interior lighting of the structure. Your balance of exposures between the detail scenes and overall ambient lighting is quite good and challenging to achieve in the "real" world. Paul S

Many thanks!

Thank you very much for the compliments. My purpose is to play in the picture, as real as possible, the magical world of miniature trains.
Sometimes I succeed, others do not. I am working to continuously improve.
