It is extremely difficult to find HO scale cars that were quite common in the 70s and early 80s.  You can find exotics and such, but generally no run-of-the-mill cars.  And the detailing?  Generally they scream "model."

Well, I happened to come across this website someone here suggested some time ago and couldn't pass up getting some highly detailed HO Scale cars that fit my era.  I'm still suffering from sticker shock, but I'll get over it once they are part of the scenery.  From Neo Scale models in Germany (but made in China, of course), Here they are...

Jeep Wagoneer

I think is probably more early-mid 80s, but I'm going to call it close enough because I remember these when I was a kid:

Volvo Box

"Volvo - They're boxy, but good."  I should almost give a prize to whoever can tell me what cheezy movie that comes from.  Again, this may be more mid-80s, but its still close enough for me...

Cadillac Seville

This is maybe a fancier car, but we had one of these for a couple years.  Spent more time in the shop than on the road with the brand new Electronic Fuel Injection that nobody knew how to fix, but still a beautiful car...

Lincoln Continental

A friend's family had one of these and it was pretty nice, too.  I remember going for a long ride with my mom and her friend and sitting in the back seat.  Neat to have such a well done model of it...

Ford F100

This is a little earlier, but would have still seen quite a number in the late 70s.  Some of you may recognize this as it is quite similar to one in another person's blog in front of what was once a Shell station, now a former Texaco station...

That's It

Hope you enjoyed the look.  I'm very pleased with the models overall, but the cost was, um, extensive.

Wow

That's pretty good.  I don't know if that movie made much money, but I enjoyed it just the same.  Good job.

I Love These

I've looked at the NEO Wagoneer for my layout also, thinking it may be an acceptable stand-in for pre-1982.  The basic appearance of the Wagoneer was quite similar to the NEO model by 1981 http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Jeep/1981_Jeep/1981_Jeep_Wagoneer_export_Brochure/1981%20Jeep%20Wagoneer%20%20export%20-01.html .

Several of the others would be perfect.  How about the bordello red interiors in the Cadillac and Lincoln?  I hope we get more variety, like a 1973-1980 GM pickup, 1973-1977 Monte Carlo and/or other GM "colonnades," a Dart/Valiant, and various other common Detroit iron that's still missing from our layouts.

That would be great, Rob

I hope they do put out some more of the common vehicles from the 70s.  They have a lot more variety in 1:43 scale, including a Buick Riviera, Pontiac Bonneville, Firebird, Grand Am and Grand Prix, Mercury Cougar, Ford Thunderbird and Gran Torino, Chevy Caprice, Monte Carlo, C10 truck, and Camaro, Dodge Dart, a couple Charger versions and Monaco, a Chrysler Town & Country wagon (which we also had when I was a kid) and Imperial.  If they were to offer any of these in HO, I'd probably buy them, too.

Cool Cars

Cool cars, Dave. I've been looking for 1970's vintage vehicles, too, and I've found a couple of sites that have some good stuff. The first is  http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/HO-Scale-Automobiles-s/1525.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=1525&show=30&page=2. Note the 1972 Camaro and the 1969 Corvette. There are also numerous variations of the 1964 Dodge van that was fairly common. The site lists some of the Moto Max Fresh Cherries line that includes a '77 Pinto, a '78 Pacer, a '74 Hornet and an '82 Honda. The Moto Max vehicles appear to be out of stock, but you might be able to find them somewhere else.

Here's another site with some cool vehicles:  http://www.truckstopmodels.com/osc/product_info.php?products_id=6111. This link will take you to the Opel Kadette, and this model has the Kadette B body style that was in use from 1965- 1973. I just found this car and I've got to have it. I bought a 1972 two-door from a friend during my senior year in high school (1976) and drove it for several years. Never thought I'd see this car in a model!

Yeah, that WOULD be great

If we could get just some of those in 1:87 I could go broke fast.  One thing I like is how they're doing run-of-the-mill vehicles like four-doors and wagons.  I get tired of manufacturers offering sports/muscle/pony cars and neglecting typical models.  Then as now most people weren't driving "cool" cars.  No I don't want another Chevelle SS; where's a Dart with a slant 6?

The Fresh Cherries line offers a few alternatives, but not nearly enough, and they concentrate on smaller cars instead of the mid-sizers and land yachts that dominated the roads.

Ford used that body style

Ford used that body style until 72 and then inverted the side stripe, after which the next real body change happens in 1980.

Millions of those trucks were sold, Millions.

Not sure

I should put it in writing in case my wife sees it.    No, they are about 28 Euros each.  With shipping and tax and everything, they ended up being about $45Cdn for each car.

Wow, that's about $25 more than I would spend on a model car, especially a FORD! [wink]

Appreciating Modeling In All Scales but majoring in HO!

New York:

There were fewer murders last year.

I could go on, but I won't.  Indeed, Kevin, they are pricey.  These may be the only ones I buy, but they will look great in the foreground of any scene.
