Well I finally did it. I got a Sherline CNC mill with CNC rotary table, horizontal conversion table and an 54,000rpm air motor.

Here is all the boxes that got delivered Wensday.

Put it together today. Here it is setup in it's verticle mode.

Horizontal mode "A". Great for cutting tiny gears.

Horizontal mode "B". This allows you to drill up to an 8" deep hole.

The air spindle mounted instead of the larger motor. This will allow me to engrave plates & engrave out lines on brass sides to resemble doors and such. I've got some ideas cookin' for hand held controllers. But you'll have to wait until I get over the learning curve to see that.

Wow!

That's a great new addition to your shop Bernd. I can't wait to see the things you will be able to create with this setup.

Keep the interesting builds coming. Looking forward to seeing more of your handy work.

Some build ideas

One thing I plan on trying is to use machinable wax ( http://www.machinablewax.com/?gclid=CNW_waac6LYCFcuj4Aodi2cAdw) to make a molds for model parts.

I've also always wanted to make steam engine driver wheels. Using styrene to mill out the spokes make a mold to pour a wheel in resin and then add a nickel plated brass tire.

There's many things I'd like to try and do with this on the model railroading end of it. But first I need to get through the steep learning curve. I'll keep posting as I progress.

Sweet!

Nice to see you got one.  Still on my wish list as my "ship has not come in" yet!  Someday...

Good for you!

I'm glad to see you've got it.  Now, as you say, all you have to do is learn how to use it!  Looks like it'll open up a range of new possibilities, though.

New Tooling

Kevin,

Yes my ship came in, but sank at the dock. Got the mill out just in time before it got soaked.

Ken,

Yes it does. Thinking of the two parts for the tender drive for the wheel axles and pulley tower.
