I have 200 engines and 400 pieces rolling stock in various conditions I inherited 20 yrs ago from my grandfather. i live in Powell River B.C. so getting help with identifying them is next to impossible. I am moving in the next few years and need to start selling off the trains. I'd like them to go somewhere they'd be used as they were his pride and joy, and I spent many weekends as a child playing with them

My e-mail is bud_1955@live.ca if anyone can help. Here is a photo of one in particular. it says Tenshodo Tokyo Japan on the bottom and appears to be fairly old. Any input is appreciated.00082(1).jpg

How much do you know?

How familiar are you with railroad and especially locomotive terminology?  You might start by seeing what sort of things are selling on ebay - frequently you will see a photo of a model identical to yours, and you can get more information about the manufacturer and model that way.  Just make sure to verify the information through a non-auction site, since auction descriptions are frequently highly inaccurate.

Tenshodo 0-6-0T

A quick Google search came up with this parts diagram.

In the top centre pane choose your engine type.

Three Options

Their is NmRA in Ca. I have friend in BC  in hobby so their are modelers in your part of the world. Research train shows in your area usually have tables to rent so you could display your items for sale.  Next you can list them on ebay. Use postal service to ship to us. Set value at 5.00 for everything you ship and it is gift. Last their are people in hobby who will buy it all for resale. You will not get much but usually ends up on someone else's layout.

Old Brass

If you have more old brass locomotives and cars you could contact Caboose Hobbies in Denver. They would be able to give you an idea about what its worth, and would possibly take it on consignment ......Mike

Vancouver is your friend....

I'm an N scaler not interested in HO stuff but I'm on the Trains 2013 committee for the annual train show and do know a number of folk who can help you.

Older stuff often isn't that great but you might also have in your possession some quite good items.  Best to have a knowledgeable person(s) help out.  You can also purchase a table at the Vancouver train show, relatively cheap to do and flog your items there, but again you want to have help valuing what you have.  In Greater Vancouver (Burnaby actually), there are two shows a year, one more a genuine show, and the other held in march is a very large swap meet.

Vancouver is probably your best place to flog your items, and if you are willing to travel, the Edmonton and Calgary shows as well.  There is a smaller show in Chilliwack that would also be good for moving your items.

The "good" stuff will move fast, it will be the other items that are less than optimal that could be a challenge to move; pricing is the secret in equipment that isn't so great.
